I'm new too :-)

Hi, folks! My name's Andy Baird. I discovered this group at a most opportune time: after two years of anticipation and preparation, I'll be picking up my LD, a 1985 22' RL model, on May 4th--just five weeks from now.

I'm a software designer, writer and artist (into digital photography and computer graphics in a big way) who is about to take the plunge into RVing. As a former electronics tech, jack-leg machinist and generally handy person, I hope I have the skills to deal with whatever comes up, but I'll be relying on RRR's emergency service to handle things like flats.

This will be my first rig, and although I've been learning everything I could for the past couple of years, hoping to be reasonably prepared when the time came, I've learned a lot more in the past few days by reading your messages! I've been going through all the messages since day one (still have 1,200 to go ;-) ...but I couldn't wait any longer to say 'hi' and introduce myself.

I'll be buying the rig (named "Gertie") from good friends in Arizona in early May and driving it back to my homebase in New Jersey. My friends have been wonderful mentors, and like most LD owners have taken very good care of the rig. Like me, they prefer boondocking and use computers heavily, so they've given Gertie four solar panels, four house batteries and a 2KW inverter, among other enhancements. I won't go into any more detail here, because you can read all about her on my Gertie web page ([url=http://www.lazydazeowners.com/[url=http://www.andybaird.com/gertie).

Of possible interest on that page (in addition to many interior photos and detailed descriptions of every aspect): photos of the roof with four solar panels mounted; and an enumeration of every single drawer, cabinet and other enclosed storage space on the rig. (Yes, I measured them all when I was visiting for two weeks last year.) Total storage space (including the 6.3 cu. ft. Norcold refrigerator) is 110 cu. ft, which is remarkable on a rig of this size.

I'm grateful to everyone here for your generosity in sharing your experience and expertise. I've learned much already and look forward to to learning much more!

Andy, welcome to the Lazy Daze list. I already know you through your mentors (and the former owners of your new baby), Judie and Gary. I know them through the RV-Talk listserv.

Fellow LDers, take the time to go to Andy's web sites. He's a Macintosh-nut, and has excellent information on digital cameras, and has a couple of beautiful websites. You'll love the "Gertie" web page ([url=http://www.lazydazeowners.com/[url=http://www.andybaird.com/gertie).

Andy, welcome - welcome! We feel as though we know you too! Judie and Gary almost purchased our "baby" but due to family commitments, changed their minds. Tell them HI when you see them!!!!!

Hey, Andy.  Very nice web page on the soon-to-be-yours Gertie.  Excellent descriptions, both in words and in pictures, of a very well-kept Lazy Daze.  Best of luck to you and your new LD.

"Hope you like the new club photo!"

Wow! I'm tickled pink, and so is Gertie! ;-)

Thanks for all the welcomes, folks--they just reaffirm what I already knew about this group. And speaking of that, congratulations to El Jefe Ford, now driving a Chevy-powered LD! ;-)
