"How does anyone survive with an 18 gal. tank?"

There are things you can do to lenghten your stay when boondocking, such as taking "Navy" showers; washing dishes in a pan rather than the sink, then using the dirty water for "flushing" the commode, etc.

I'm hoping others will chime in to give us some of their favorite tips!

Greg, I know this is dumb but do you wash dishes in one and rinse in another? I knew I'd live to regret taking two 20 something girls on our shake down trip! I really need tips which I'll post on the door for the girls to read.

Some ideas on using and dumping less water.

Camping World and others suppliers sell small plastic water tanks with wheels and handles. You drain your motorhome's holding tank into the tank and then roll it to a suitable drain where you dump it. They come in several sizes. Find a size that is comfortable for you to physically deal with.I hate to move my motorhome any more than necessary just to dump.

To save water in areas it is not available, we rinse our dishes with hot water in a bicycle water bottle.

Always use a dishpan and never dump it down the sink.I use two. One for washing and the other for rinsing. Throw the wash water out when done, The pan with the rinse water becomes the next batch of wash water.

Rinse and bag your produce at home on weekend trips.

Use campground showers. Take a pair of thongs to wear or a mat to stand on.

When we kayak camp in areas without fresh water, we live on 1 gallon per day per person. You can live with less and not suffer to much.

Excellent responses so far! On the suggestion made for the water tanks with wheels and handles, where do you carry this portable tank on your LD?

I've started a Word document with the suggestions made so far, so keep 'em coming!

No dumb questions here! Yes, wash in one and rinse in another, then carry the pan to your black tank, or dump in a pit toilet or other appropriate receptacle.

Sorry Karen, you're on your own with this one!
