Anyone have an LD with a Powerstroke? March 01, 2001, 08:49:50 pm Yahoo Message Number: 2360I am thinking about downsizing to a 26 1/2 MB or RB from a diesel pusher. Does any one have an LD with a Powerstroke? Thanks for your help!
Anyone have an LD with a Powerstroke Reply #1 – March 01, 2001, 10:20:39 pm Yahoo Message Number: 2362I think a diesel could be pretty loud in the cab, which you could get a pretty good idea of the sound level by test driving a Ford diesel pickup. The Powerstroke is a great engine, though. We have a 26.5 MB on order that is replacing a 38' Winnebago Luxor with the 325 HP Cummins 8.3 liter diesel. That diesel sound was not a problem mainly because it was 35 feet behind us.I think you would find the noise tiresome and even though the diesel will deliver better mileage and more towing torque, the differential between gas and diesel per gallon costs favor gasoline, at least here in Michigan so the cost per mile, even with the better mileage of a diesel, is about a wash. With gasoline engines now lasting 200,000 miles, I'm not sure there is an economic argument for a diesel. And standing around truck stops and gas stations in the diesel filling lanes was always an exercise in damage control when it came to keeping that stinky fuel off of your hands, clothes and shoes. If you're not paying attention, you end up tracking that fuel in and onto your new motorhome carpet and you and momma are not going to be too happy about it. And sometimes, if you're way off the beaten path, diesel fuel can be hard to find. All in all, I think the gas V-10 is the better way to go. It is fairly quiet, powerful and as reliable as a hammer.Regards.Pat Nowak

Test drive a couple full size vans, one diesel, the other gas and see what you think. Make sure to go on the freeway. Find a good steep hill if you can.
