Locking Gas Cap? July 18, 2003, 07:18:42 pm Yahoo Message Number: 24691I searched the archives and don't see anything about the gas cap so maybe I am the only one who wants a locking gas cap? What I want to know is whether the tether on the gas cap is also a sensor that will cause the check engine light to come on if a different gas cap is installed? (which does not attach to the tether) I love this site with all the smarties on it!Mari L

It even says Ford on the key hole cover. As I remember, it was not inexpensive but it fit properly and locked perfectly. A locking gas cap was recommended in the literature for Mexico travel since a Pemex attendant could begin pumping gasoline into your tank before you got out of your rig. This doesn't ever happen really because the attendant needs to know how much fuel you want and which grade you need before pumping. The new digital Pemex pumps really prevent fraud anyway. We use the Magna grade down there. Another Gringo fear dispelled.Kent and Margaret Neveu Escapees Mexican Connection

The light might eventually come on if you left the cap off, but it wouldn't be because of the tether. So, go ahead and install a locking cap.-Victor

Also you will want to determine if there is a locking cap available that is compatible as to fit and proper pressure relief characteristics. Tom.

I am going to save the old one just in case. Checked the tether and it is not hooked up to anything, just knotted on the end. Now I would like a locking fresh water tank cap............. maybe camping world? Mari
