Intermittent Refrigerator Gas Start Failure

A Dometic Model RM3662 refrigerator in a 2001 LD RK fails to start whenever the valve at the propane tank is turned on. The gas on the range is first used, per a repair facility suggestion, but the refrigerator still fails to start.

Once the refrigerator is started "manually" (by lighting the burner with a match at the exterior immediately after restarting the appliance from the interior via start switch), the refrigerator generally operates flawlessly.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Ronald

Ronald, I am having the same problem, but did not think to light manually.  Instead I hooked up to AC, precooled, disconnected from AC, and while in the AUTO mode it kicked over to gas.
I also followed procedure in the manual and verified that propane was at the burner.
Will try again this week and hope it will fire up.  If not I'll have to get it serviced on the road.  Our service outlet is backed up three weeks.

Malcolm,
Not sure "service" will help. An igniter replacement was recommended by my local shop, but I declined, given that the igniter works fine once I manually start or have the unit run on AC. I  theorize there is too much propane pressure at the refrigerator valve and that needs adjustment or replacement.

I would contact Dometic if I knew their email address.

Good luck, and keep me posted, Malcolm.

A national email address for Dometic customer support is:

I do not know if you are likely to get the individual help you need at the above contacts.

A web URL for finding a service center is: http://www.edometic.com/

General website is: http://www.dometic.com/

We had our cooling unit replaced at the Dometic service center in Ontario CA.  The person who did the work was very helpful and had over 25 years experience.

Another time we had a fridge problem related to gas pressure adjustment.

Is your unit under warranty?

Ken,
The unit is under warranty, but we live in the Midwest so I will have to find their service center in the area.

Thanks for the help.

The above website did not work correctly for me with an old netscape browser, but did work correctly with a newer Internet Explorer browser.
