Notes on solar panel siting...
Yahoo Message Number: 23104
Shadows falling on just a tiny spot of a solar panel can cut the output current almost completely off. This makes the selection of panels and their location on your roof extremely important when they are mounted flat:

Panels should be sited so nothing on your roof shadows any part of the panels during any productive part of the day. If possible, try also placing them such that you don't have to orient your LD based on this. Siting often involves enough variables for comfort and view without having to also worry about solar charging.

More small panels is better than fewer large ones. This not only allows more flexibility of placement, but if unavoidable shadowing occurs on one panel, the others will still have full output.

Choose unobstructed sunny locations. Parking under trees has other pitfalls anyway. I have found that on a warm day, the inside temperature is virtually unaffected if all the windows and vents are opened up - compared to parking in the shade. If it is so hot you need the air on, then this does not apply - but presumably you have hookups or are running the generator anyway.
