Southern Claifornia desert
Yahoo Message Number: 19063
We spent the weekend in the Palm Springs area hiking the Palm Canyons. The streams were flowing and the weather was sunny, with temperatures in the high 70s. Perfect walking conditions.

The December rains have sprouted a carpet of seeds that have been nourished by the heavy rains the area received last week. The normally barren ground is covered in a lush mat of green. This is going to be a good year for wildflowers so those of you who live in or near Southern California should plan on a visit(s) to the desert soon. The lower desert already has a few of the early bloomers showing. The show will progress to the higher altitudes as the season progresses.

A good source of where the wildflowers are blooming is the Theodore Payne Foundation.

Starting the first week of March, they have a weekly update of the best sites in the Southland. Its time to dust off the hiking boots and to find your pack and camera.
