We spent the weekend in the Palm Springs area hiking the Palm Canyons. The streams were flowing and the weather was sunny, with temperatures in the high 70s. Perfect walking conditions.
The   December rains have sprouted a carpet of seeds that have been nourished by the heavy rains the area received last week. The normally barren ground is covered in a lush mat of green. This is going to be a good year for wildflowers so those of you who live in or near Southern California should plan on a visit(s) to the desert soon. The lower desert already has a few of the early bloomers showing. The show will progress to the higher altitudes as the season progresses.

A good source of where the wildflowers are blooming is the Theodore Payne Foundation.

Starting the first week of March, they have a weekly update of the best sites in the Southland. Its time to dust off your hiking boots and to find your pack and camera.

@@@#$^&%%++%$$$@@@###!!!&^%%%!!!!! I just looked out the window and I can only see the car antenna and half of Ladybug. Chaser, the jeep, is out there somewhere. It must be one of the bumps in the snow.

Larry, this is cruel and unusual punishment!!

No, we have not stayed there, only passed by it quickly. After checking it's website, it looks nice, we must try it next winter.
Since my parents live in Fallbrook, we usually stay at Borrego Palm Canyon CG. It is an easy drive for them to come out for a quick over night visit plus Borrego Springs has motels just down the street.

Anza-Borrego SP should start its wildflower bloom soon.
Too much to see and so little time. The green season is so short and the brown season is soooo long. Welcome to So Cal.

Do you live in San Diego County?
