Weather Opinion
First of all, I’m not knowledgeable about weather so that’s my disclaimer.  For several years, we spent many weeks in Arkansas in the Spring.  And the worst storms we have ever experienced have been in the Spring time in east Oklahoma, east Texas and most of Arkansas.   Storms that included high winds, large hail, tornado damage, biblical rain and massive lightning.

Starting last year and again this year we have traveled elsewhere.  And once again those areas are getting slammed.  As I was watching the weather this morning for those areas, I’m relieved we’re not there.

I understand that there’s other areas that are equally challenging for RV travel, but perhaps this little bit of information will help the Neighborhood with their Spring time travel plans.

Had a devil of a time dodging severe weather in Texas/Oklahoma/Nebraska last April into May.

As mentioned last year, I highly recommend the RadarScope app and subscribe for a higher tier while you are in tornado alley.  Helped me dodge and navigate through some very turbulent areas.   At the higher subscriptions, it shows hail on the radar (shows up as pink), and its updates are far more current vs free weather apps.

When camping in those areas, look at a map to see where you can drive to in a pinch to ride out a severe storm with hail.

For as long as I can remember the spring storms in the mid west and east have been something to avoid.

I was involved with a motorcycle rally back in 2005.
We decided on having it in Hot Springs Arkansas. About 10 days before the rally, Katrina hit and did a lot of damage, mostly south.
Then, the next week, Rita came calling and made it a real interesting rally.
We had tremendous amounts of rain, wind and crazy weather.
About 80 people showed up, all on motorcycles which I found amazing.

I have a friend we all call Trip.
One of his sayings is, it's all about the stories.
We had some great stories to tell after surviving that couple of weeks.

The National Weather Service/NOAA (traditionally) has had top notch professionals with the best technology; access to powerful computers, weather satellites, buoys in the ocean, aircraft etc. AFAIK, most everybody else in the US gets their information from them, uses their own professionals to interpret the information and present it to the public, monetizing it in the process. I have used the NWS for years as my source for weather information. One can get a detailed 7-day forecast for any zip code in an instant, view several different types of satellite animations, and\or learn just about anything weather related if they spend some time on their website, whether on a computer or phone.

As a fairly attentive observer of the weather (living and gardening on a woodsy hillside in Northwest Arkansas), I am constantly amazed at how accurate the weather predictions have become seven to ten days out from the local guys, again, using NWS information.

Springtime travel anywhere can be tricky, but it seems to me there's adequate information now (and getting better all the time) to plan or alter a trip using the available tools to avoid or at least minimize the risk of getting caught in bad weather.

As a somewhat retired Pilot - too old to pass the physical - I've been a weather nerd for years.
My goto to general weather is Windy.com.   Europeans put more money into their weather predictions and weather institutions.   They tend to do a better job of long range forecasts then we do in the USA.
Our short range is spot on but once ya get out 4 to 10 days it's a 50 50 chance.
NOAA is the gold standard in this country.   I wish they (the powers to be) would give em more money.
Weather Underground is also a good resource for weather on the ground.
Aviation Weather Center if you are willing to do a bit of study is the most accurate 'what is happen right now'.  And if with  tad of study (i.e. figuring out all the weather codes) you could predict what is coming or going away from you at any spot in the USA.
