DC to DC Charger Location
Has anyone installed a DC DC charger in the place where the diode isolator sets in the E450 engine compartment.
Larry W has given me some very good input and inspired me to move forward with my upgrade project. However, in looking at other people‘s posts on the same subject, I’ve determined that I do not want the charger to be in the coach.   Note that I will probably be using the Victron 30 amp unit.
I am concerned about heat, of course, and the physical location of the current diode isolator is very tempting because I think I can make it regarding fit
Has anyone else put the DC to DC converter there, or any other location, not inside the coach?

I am in the process of converting our house batteries over to a LiFePo4 battery bank that I am building.  Step one was to replace the factory diode isolator and move to the new Victron XS 50 amp DC to DC charge controller and a higher output alternator.
I fabricated a mounting plate to hold the DC to DC charger and related terminal post all of which I mounted where the factory diode isolator had previously been.
The installation fit nicely but certainly not much extra room to work with.  If my memory serves me correctly, Victron’s latest generation 50amp XS controller is thinner and also has a smaller mounting footprint than Victron’s previous generation 30amp DC to DC controller.  You may want to consider that before you move forward with the 30amp controller?
My installation was in a 2002 E350 Super Duty chassis.

Very good and thanks.
After more measuring, I have given up on keeping it in the chassis area and will put it in the battery compartment. I’m moving the batteries inside the coach.
My wife isn’t happy with losing some storage.
