Air chuck extender compatible with Viair?
I need an air chuck extension to reach the rear inner tire and am thinking of getting this Milton extender. Im wondering about the comment “not for use with an inflator gauge” and what that means concerning my intent to use it with my Viair compressor with an integrated gauge. Would this setup be compatible?

Here’s the Viair gauge.

My Viair 400 compressor uses standard quick-disconnect air fittings, widely available at most hardware and/or auto parts stores in the tool section.

Thanks Larry, sometime in the past I thought I heard there was some reason you couldn’t add just any off brand accessory. It didn’t make sense to me at the time. Now that I’m in the market for this extension and read the note associated with it I thought I better look into it more. I’m going to go ahead and order it.

A standard disconnect works on ours.

The air chuck should be the "open flow" type for that type of compressor.  If not, the pressure in the hose will quickly go to max and overload the compressor when the chuck is not connected.

Yes “open flow”… that’s  probably what I read in the past. Though I don’t understand how closed flow would cause an issue since the  compressor normally shuts itself off.

My Viair does not shut off automatically.  If you have one with a pressure switch (and likely a tank?) then you don't need the "open flow" type accessories.

If you notice in Larry's photo he installed the "always open" part of the quick disconnect on the compressor side so his installation of standard parts is "open flow".

On a normal air compressor with pressure switch (and normally tank) you would put the female part of the coupler on the compressor side of the connection and it would be "closed flow" when the hose is disconnected.

Hope that makes sense!

P.S.  I haven't shopped for that type of extended chuck, but Amazon does have both open and closed flow inflation chucks.  I need the open flow type.

The Viair 400P's outlet shown is what came with the compressor. I haven't attempted to remove it.
The included hose does not release air when not connected to a valve stem.  Running the compressor disconnected for a short period is fine, long-term running without releasing any air could overheat and damage the compressor.  In normal operation, the compressor will get very hot, be careful not to get burned.
Our compressor is used primarily for airing the Jeep's tires after a day of playing in the dirt, it works fine for the LD too.

I think I have the same set up as you Larry. The hose is closed flow. Since the trigger controls air flow I don't see the need for closed flow hoses and accessories.

I think I'm over thinking all this! 😁 The extension will be connected to the trigger so in my feeble mind it doesn't matter if the extension is closed or open flow. I'll be getting the extension Wednesday so I'll report how it works out.

I would like to add a quick connect to the output of the trigger but the output is slightly smaller than the input quick connect. Not sure what my options are, an adapter?

My Viair (not sure of model...  it is one of their large "quick fill" models I bought years ago designed for large off road tires) came with an open flow hose, no trigger, air still flows when chuck is not connected to valve stem.

From what you've described you'll be fine with a closed chuck.
