Cuisinart Gas Grill

Does any one have a Cuisinart Petit Gourmet Portable Tabletop Propane Gas Grill that they have used and can give a review.  It looks like it will fit into the LD short compartments.  I am wondering it will get hot and cook well in wind?

As a chronic, all-weather BBQer ; for cold-weather BBQing, there is no substitute for BTUs when camping in cold conditions. Buy the highest BTU output BBQ that will fit.
The Cuisinart Petit Gourmet Portable Tabletop Propane Gas Gril has a max of 5,500-BTU output.
The Napoleon-TQ285 produces 12,000-BTUs of heat.

For best results, add a folding windscreen and carry a square of plywood to set the BBQ on in wet or snowy conditions.

Sorry I can’t give you a better report about the Cuisinart since we haven’t used it camping yet. Our biggest factor in deciding to purchase this grill was the fact it can be stored in the aft compartment. Since we don’t like cold weather camping, I would take Larry's recommendation for a grill. Not sure where the Napoleon could be stored in a MB.  Good luck, and let us know what you end up with!

This is the one we have - pricey, but can be found with discounts. It is heavy, but fits in a fairly shallow space in an outside compartment, and I bought an extra hose/regulator to run off small propane cylinders. It produces a LOT of heat, for cold camping:

Hi Liam;  It seems like Ccurvey and Greg (Hilola) both have the smaller new barbeque but need to use them, so they can fill in about how well they work.
Greg, doesn't the MidBath have a larger and taller storage compartment on the passenger side, just aft of the cab door?  That would be a place for a bigger barbeque.    RonB

We had that exact Cuisinart grill and it worked fine. Our top criteria was that it fit in the same compartment you're probably wanting to use. It went in just fine. It was a little more challenging getting it out because the legs don't lock in the storage position so you have to pin them up when you pull it out. You'll do it twice and be a pro. It's good for burgers, brats, chicken and such. As mentioned above, it's not hot like charcoal so you'll want to let it heat up the grill surface for a bit in order to get grill marks. It cleans up easy and there's a grease trap you'll want to empty so as to keep your compartment clean.

Hi, Ron. Yes, that compartment is larger but I have other "important" stuff in there since it can be accessed from inside, under the dinette seat.  When I first bought Nocona, I think I tried putting our old Weber in there but thought better of it later.  I wanted to reserve that compartment for things I may need to access from inside the rig.

Gregg,

Several years ago, Joan remarked on how she removed the top 1/2 of her BBQ to fit it into an outside compartment. I purchased a similar BBQ and was able to fit it into our lower compartment.

I did however return the BBQ and replace it with a much lower profile Camp Chef propane cook top that snuggles into the BBQ Bay that houses it as well as our Pyromid, a Fold-N-Go charcoal grill and assorted cooking gear and charcoal. All neatly tucked away. Amazon.com: Camp Chef Mountain Series Everest 2X - High Output Two-Burner...

It’s nice to have several options for cooking outdoors. As is often the case, campfires and charcoal are forbidden in dryer weather conditions.

Happy Travels. Heading to Yosemite with my daughter in a few days. We will be enjoying all the Christmas Trees and decorations in most of the shops and especially the Ahwanee Hotel. A perfect place for Hot Chocolate or Cold Brews and views of Half Dome.

I have the Cuisinart grill and have no complaints.  Cooks my one steak I put on it perfectly.  Probably would fit a  few more. I like the grease trap and it is pretty easy to clean. I bought the one with taller legs, but if I had a do-over, I'd buy the short legged version.

I just bought an extension hose and a 5 lb propane tank to go with it so I don't have to buy the 1 lb canisters any more.

The large exterior cargo bin can be adjusted to fit a variety of items. Below is a link to the large bin on our 24' Front Lounge. The FL only has two exterior storage bins, and things need to be tightly packed with only essential items.
Storage for our Olympian BBQ is a priority.
Mid-baths have twice the storage space of the FLs. If you are running out of space, you are carrying too much, in my opinion.

Larry, I am curious as to what the opening measurement is on your large compartment? I don't think the MB compartment is as tall. My compartment opening is 11.5 inches.

Since I'm nursing a fresh knee replacement. it may be a few days until I can make the measurement.
I'm mostly sure the opening is the same or similar size. I added a shelf for the BBQ, cutting the large bin in half.
The point is the large compartment can be divided any way you wish to accommodate items needing storage.
You cannot imagine how jealous I am when seeing how much exterior storage area the Md-Bath has.

Larry, no hurry, just curious.  Take care of your recovery and congratulations on 50 years of marital bliss!

Yes, I remember the lack of storage in the old TK's so am pleased with the MB, not to mention the generator and one solar panel we now have (didn't have that in the TK either)!

Let’s see.  The most frequent cause for this type of repair is lack of or incorrect lubricants.  Or out of balance and worn out tread.  Finally, just plain long term use and abuse.😂

Nevertheless, best wishes for a 100% recovery.

Larry, I think you are right, Btu output is important that's why I was hesitant about buying the Cuisinart at 5,500Btu.  The Napoleon grill has a total out put of 12,000 Btu but that is split to 6,000Btu per side.  We have a working Frankenstein grill made up of Charbroil and other parts rebuilt from other similar grills that close up into a clam shell type of setup that fits into our outer rear storage.  Our 98~MB does not have the larger opening storage that some LD models have so we are stuck with 9-1/2" height.  Our latest grill burner output is supposed to be 11,000Btu but I doubt it.  We have changed the burner several times since our unit is about 25+ years old.  Like Greg I wonder if the folded up Napoleon grill will fit into our 9" high compartment?

Steve Thank You for the info on the Olympian Grill I will look into it.

Hi Liam. Here are their specs, but that’s with the legs extended, so maybe?

I just measured ours.  It's 10" tall at the very top with the legs folded (optical illusion that the measuring tape is at an angle.)

Michelle how hot does your grill get?  I am wondering about how well it cooks in cold weather?  We would not cook outdoor in super cold weather if it was windy or snow storm.  Our Frankenstein Grill when closed up and the handle is folded down is 9 1/2" high and just fits into any of our roughly 10" high compartments on our 98~MB.  I just changed our old single burner tube which may have been the sixth burner tube in this grill for a new U shaped one which distributes the flame more evenly.  I am wondering if it will get as hot?  We may go LD Ski camping for a few days next week depending on the weather. (Hope for more snow)  The weather next week looks like it will just get into the 20s so not as cold as in January or February.  We will bring the Frankenstein grill with us and maybe the new Cuisinart Grill too.

Thank You everyone who responded with suggestions!

For the past 40 years, we have used a folding aluminum windshield to protect the BBQ, camp stove, or fire pit.
It is extremely effective in cold weather, blocking the breeze and helping to keep the heat concentrated in a small area.
Frigid temps suck the heat away from the BBQ's shell, slowing cooking and reducing the sear.

It looks a little beat up after hundreds of wood fires, back before we started using propane instead. It works great with the propane fire pit. keeping the minimal heat from blowing away.

Greg Thank You for the specs on Grill size.  Our LD is resting inside for now and I have not been out to check on the measurements.  Plus it is basically shore horned into storage so it is hard to get back to the rear compartments.  We may take it up to the local ski area here 3hrs away for a few days next week and then can check everything out.

Michelle, Thank You for the info on the Cuisinart, I guess we will keep it!  It looks like it will be very portable vs our other grill that has lava rocks and must be kept upright all of the time.  The Cuisinart may become our car trip grill because of its ease of use!

Larry, That is definitely the ticket!  I have thought of building something like that for years.  We have some aluminum scraps of old road signs we have been given.  I may cut them up to make a shield, just got to figure out what is the best size and how to make it fit on the folding table we use from time to time?

Thanks, it's all from wear, and tear and too much abuse
