2004 LD 30ft Island Queen: House battery tray - how does it work? November 09, 2024, 09:05:12 am How does the battery tray work? In other words, how do I slide the tray out to replace the batteries. It looks like it's latched but I don't want to break it.Thanks...See pics..

Re: 2004 LD 30ft Island Queen: House battery tray - how does it work? Reply #2 – November 09, 2024, 09:58:04 am If your tray is like mine, the bearings no longer roll smoothly and it can take some effort to get out even after the latches are up. 1 Likes
Re: 2004 LD 30ft Island Queen: House battery tray - how does it work? Reply #3 – November 09, 2024, 12:50:51 pm The battery tray appears badly rusted, resulting from too many years of battery flumes and the lack of lubrication of the tray’s rollers. This is extremely common in old LDs. If the tray doesn’t move or the bearings are in terrible shape, consider removing the tray. The tray was installed for easier access when adding water to the battery.Your LD has AGM batteries that do not require adding water periodically. Later models came stock with AGM batteries that did not have the sliding tray. Instead, they were secured with a wood frame that could be unscrewed to remove the batteries for replacement.Larry 1 Likes
Re: 2004 LD 30ft Island Queen: House battery tray - how does it work? Reply #4 – November 09, 2024, 01:08:27 pm Hi TreeLee; The tray only comes out about 6", It is not a full extension drawer slide. Also on my '99 the multiple wires, good that they were heavy gauge, were also very stiff and resisted being unbent when the tray was pulled out. I had a piece of 1" x 1" x 6" wood, that I used to push the latches up at each end to release them, and I could also use it to prop the slide in the out position. As Rick said, after 20 years, you may need to clean and lubricate the slide bearings. I used white (poly) grease to help preserve those bearings. RonB 1 Likes
