Outside Compartment Door finger lifts

At the recent Caravan Club meeting (Halloween Special) in Desert Hot Springs, Ca.   It was nice to see newer members with (new to them) 'recycled' Lazy Daze motorhomes.  One thing missing on several LD's was the finger lift surround on the outside compartment door locks. When questioned, a member mentioned that it was hard to lift a stuck door with just the key partially in the lock.   (when the rubber seals get sticky I use WashwaxAll on the seal and mating surface)
   I'm not sure why previous owners had removed the finger lifts?  Another owner speculated that older units didn't come with them, but my '99 did. In my early years with the Caravan Club, others had older units than mine, and I'm pretty sure that they all had the finger lifts as stock equipment.

   Mine came painted blue, these are stainless. The paint has chipped off on mine in places, and doesn't stick well when re-applied. For the coach owners (I noticed this on a few LD's as I walked around)  stainless would be better than nothing.
    Browsing through the JR website revealed a lot of familiar looking items.  RV Parts & Camper Accessories in Buffalo NY | JR Products  Switches, surrounds, plumbing drains, and other strictly RV parts. Industrial Lock and Hardware is a good source of finger pulls and custom round-lock replacements.

What length/size replacement cam locks did you order from Industrial Locks and Hardware specific to each storage door if you are willing to share.  Thanks so much!

The size of each lock's various parts varies according to the door's function and thickness.
In the link below, print the sheet that shows how to measure each existing lock needing upgrading.

Hi Greg, I replaced my locks with cylindrical higher security within days of getting her new in 2000.  I also stuffed Bondo into the inside of the compartment door where the lock goes, to avoid crushing the door when the lock is tightened up. I also put aluminum backing plates on my two storage compartments. The generator door didn't need that, the water fill, refrigerator door, and electrical door didn't need that. Those are the only doors I have. (sewer hose didn't need it). LP tank access door can't be locked...fire code. 
   I just wanted people without the finger lifts, to know that they could be installed, and should have been on the rigs from the factory.     RonB

Hi Steve;  I never considered that the finger pull could break!  I've had doors stick to the rubber seals, and I've pulled the rubber seal off of the double sided tape attachment point (to the frame). I also haven't had issues with freezing temperatures. I suppose water could accumulate around the doors, freeze, and prevent access to the point where the pull could break off. 
  Good to know. My pulls are in good shape for now. Other people could definitely use these if they have broken or missing pulls.     RonB

Hi Ed;  Cutting into the doors is only to put in the 'non lock' thumb locks.  Double redundancy I think is unnecessary. I've been fine for 25 years. I don't stack heavy things where they can settle or strike the door from inside. I did use thread lock on the lock shaft to keep the nuts or screws in place.
The new more secure locks fit in the same holes. The dust cap seems unnecessary also. More things to go wrong.   RonB
