Denver area [service] recommendations
Looking for a place for an oil change in the Denver area.

Also while in the Denver area, I’d like to find a place with a lift that would be capable of removing the custom CAT cage I had installed a couple years ago, as the CAT itself has failed and needs replacement.

Is there a place that will replace the CAT but doesn't have the ability to remove the cage?    My guess would be that one place could do both.

Every place I have checked along the way New England couldn’t do both, so I’m deciding it’s easier to get the cage removed then find a CAT replacement.

Frankly, once the cage is removed, wouldn’t mind someone stealing the CAT, would be cheaper😇

Wow, that's low mileage for a cat to go bad, our LD still has its original cat at 150K.

I'm surprised that a muffler shop can't remove the cage and install a new cat. They cut and weld metal daily, especially in exhaust shops that do custom work.
Maybe ordinary muffler shops are not licensed or permitted to touch or replace catalytic converters, the Feds are picky about fooling with cat converters.

No idea if this is offered in Denver, but here in NJ,  the dealers are now offering mobile service for simple stuff.   My local dealer sent a tech to my house, and he changed the oil in my driveway.    No more calling around trying to find a shop that's willing to work on bigger vehicles.  (And it was a heck of a lot cheaper than getting it done at a Ford Truck Center or an RV specialist.)

I’ve done this at a friend’s place in San Jose, and son in law in Chicago.   Don’t think it’s a good idea in a state park in Denver.

Found a place near Cherry Creek State Park who said they can do the cage removal, will find out tomorrow if they could.

In a pinch, find a Harbor Freight store, buy a cheap angle grinder and a pack of metal cutting blades and cut the cage off yourself.
If the rig may be licensed again in California, or any other state that requires semi-annual smog testing, make sure the replacement cat is California-certified.  Smog techs now check the cat to verify it has not been removed or changed to an unacceptable cat.

Attempted to cut it myself, quickly found without the RV being on a lift, was too hard to reach sections without risking damage

Best of luck with your current situation. Like Larry said, seems odd the cat has failed already.

Your cage is pretty impressive, however, a Cat Strap and several pipe clamps with welded nuts may be a much easier solution. Just a thought.

Can I recommend Saul’s?

Yes, with a few caveats.

Brought it in on a Sunday morning, they could remove the CAT cage that day, and said they could also replace the failed CAT itself that day with an OEM California rated CAT.   They removed the cage & CAT, but then the replacement CAT turned out to be wrong, pushing the replacement until early Monday.   To their credit, they put me up in a Hilton a block away at their expense.

CAT and the trailing O2 sensor were replaced by 11 am and I was on my way, or so I thought.   The leading O2 sensor started throwing errors 80 miles later, forcing a disappointing return across Denver during rush hour traffic.    They stayed late replacing the failed O2 sensor at no cost to me.

Was Saul’s perfect?  No, but they were transparent on what happened, and made things right.   They aren’t cheap, and they are up front about that too, but I’d recommend them if you are stuck in Denver.

It may be too late for this comment, but I would have been pursuing Ford for relief for needing a replacement of the catalytic converter so soon. I believe you have documentation of how many visits you made to Ford dealers due to engine codes that were not resolved in a reasonable time period. Could those misfires have led to premature failure or the catalytic converter? I would pursue the issue. It can't hurt.

Already chatted up Ford upon the diagnosis in Buffalo back in August, no dice.
