Reply #1 – July 09, 2024, 12:43:52 am Save your money and do not coat the roof.Eternabond tape the seams and recoat the sealant around the vents, after cleaning, with polyurethane or Dicor.A roof coating does not have useful benefits for an aluminum roof and will make future resealing very difficult.Larry 4 Likes
Re: What do you use to recoat roof?? Reply #2 – July 09, 2024, 11:22:26 am Thanks Larry. The previous owner coated the roof. There are areas where the coating is wearing. Should I just clean or apply one coat to have a white roof again?

Reply #3 – July 09, 2024, 12:05:34 pm Hi Mark; If the surface is smooth enough, you can just paint it with white gloss or semi-gloss paint, A small roller and brush. This Rustoleum UV resistant product should work. Might take a few quarts to do the entire roof. A non-skid additive is available, but it might collect dirt worse. RonB 1 Likes
Re: What do you use to recoat roof?? Reply #5 – July 09, 2024, 03:40:50 pm The aluminum roof does not need a coating as rubber roofs may need. One problem with painting the roof is it will be more slippery. The Factory paint had a rough surface for better traction, I installed strips of Saftey Walk tape over the roof joists to mark where to step and to increase traction when the roof is moist.https://www.homedepot.com/p/3M-2-in-x-15-ft-Safety-Walk-Step-and-Ladder-Tread-Tape-7635NA/100132176Larry 1 Likes

The deck paint can be ordered with traction improvements in it. Slippery roofs can be fatal! RonB As an Amazon Associate Lazy Daze Owners' Group earns from qualifying purchases.
Re: What do you use to recoat roof?? Reply #7 – July 11, 2024, 06:00:56 pm I recoated my roof with Ameron Amershield. It is a two part polyurethane paint. I applied it with a brush and a short nap roller over the factory painted roof. As with any coating you use, you need to clean the roof and scuff up the old coating. This industrial coating is very durable and UV resistant. It still looks great after 10 years.. The roller gave the surface an orange peel or dimpled surface that is not very slippery. It adhered well to the sealant. Compatibilty with the old coating could be a problem. Amershield is used on many things requiring outdoor weather resistance.https://max.ppg.com/adaptivemedia/rendition?id=c1bef1ab3a8ebf11b0417a660e9f91f2c3991a0dHere are couple of pictures of Amershield on the roof and sealed
Re: What do you use to recoat roof?? Reply #8 – July 15, 2024, 04:06:28 pm Hi Phil; Nice looking roof, that Amershield is pretty to look at. Is that yellow really there, and what is it? One thing wrong with your roof is there aren't any solar panels! At least 500W would look better.... RonB 2 Likes
Re: What do you use to recoat roof?? Reply #9 – July 16, 2024, 01:25:38 am The sealant was recommended by Lazy Daze. Can't remember what it was now. I like to apply a paint stripe coat first to the seams. I work it in with a brush The capillary action helps draw the paint into small voids and seal them. I then roll out the rest of the roof. You need to wear booties over your shoes to prevent tracking up the clean roof. I applied the sealant (yellow stuff) last once the paint dried. You could paint over it with a second stripe coat if you want. Just make sure the sealant is paintable . The one coat covered fine. It took a gallon of paint to do the roof. A one gallon kit, paint and catalyst, is about $150 now. Thanks, yes it came out pretty good for a brush and roller job. Do not spray Amershield without proper protective gear. It is polyurethane. You don't want to breathe the atomized paint. Read the Materials Safety Data Sheet and Technical Data Sheet to properly mix and apply the coatingThe coach came with no solar panel. For some reason previous owner removed it. I have a small Honda generator I take with me. Just can't run the A/C, which I really need in California this summer 1 Likes
Re: What do you use to recoat roof?? Reply #10 – July 16, 2024, 04:21:23 am Hi Phil; New lithium batteries are a game changer. Modern battery management systems can act like a gas gauge and tell you by percentage how much you have left in the 'tank'. LiFePO4 batteries can safely be run down to 80% charge repeatedly. Most can have a 10 year life and longer. One member here overdid the solar with 1200 watts, and three S.O.K. batteries at 200+ AH each. With 600 AH, (another member has 500 AH) and a 3KW Victron Multiplus charger/inverter he can run his roof A/C, and in bright sunlight still charge his batteries. No Honda or gas cans needed. Lighter than lead acid, saves enough weight to allow solar panels. Not carrying the Honda and gasoline will save some weight. And you can run the microwave without starting the generator! RonB 2 Likes
