The LazyDaze Companion has a nice entry on this issue that may soon be available. Until then, try this: The Lazy Daze Companion: air conditionerIf that's the issue, you have a vacuum leak that you need to route around. This video demonstrates a new canister in the engine compartment, while I think some here have placed the canister in the cab. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmSOS-yYZQI&ab_channel=TheLimoGarageRich 1 Likes

Reply #2 – May 06, 2024, 03:23:57 pm Hi Mark; If the cold air comes out of the defrost vents, then the vacuum to operate the vent flap control isn't getting there. It could be the flap control valve, but more likely it is a small diameter vacuum hose, it looks like a wire. It is exposed to rat damage under the hood, near the front passenger side wheel well. In my case it was a squirrel. This link goes to where and how I fixed it. I relocated the tank and valve to where I could reach it again easier if needed. Furnace RonB
Re: Dash AC not working on 2002 E-450 LD. Reply #3 – May 06, 2024, 06:08:53 pm I second Ron and Rich. In my case rats got vacuum lines under the access plate in the middle of the dash (photo 1). They also got me behind the firewall which is very common with Fords. As many others have done I bypassed the factory switch and installed a new switch and canister next inside next to the doghouse (photo 2). Several posts here on this issue and also a number of youtubes which I found very helpful. Good luck.jor
