All the different activities done by motorhome journeys
When traveling by motorhome or other RVs it allows us to much easily have hobbies done outdoors or in places not easily accessed by other means of travel. In our case, Elizabeth is an artist of several different mediums. When camping in remote campgrounds located in very beautiful places she will spend her free time painting or drawing the view. We carry her gear in the back of the toad. Meanwhile, I'm about photographing the scenery. The attached image is an oil painting of the Wind River Canyon she started while camping at the Canister Boysen State Park in Wyoming back in 2017. She later finished the painting back home in her studio. We were in the area to see the total solar eclipse on August 21st. That too was spectacular as we were out in the desert parked on the centerline of the moon's shadow. I got some great photos of that event. This is one of many paintings she has done over the years From Florida to Newfoundland, to Alaska, to California and many points in between. You can't easily do this staying in hotel rooms.
Another project Elizabeth had was doing research for a biography she wrote of a 19th century female physician, Dr. Mary Jane Safford. For several of the ten years the research took place we traveled many places across the country going to libraries and government archives for information. Mary's brother, Anson, was the territorial governor of Arizona in the 1870's and both were friends with President Grant. Both were at the golden RR spike ceremony in Utah.  It would have been very difficult to travel to so many places for this research without our Lazy Daze. We actually camped in downtown Las Vegas to go to the university's library and not the casinos. It would be interesting to hear what other members of this forum have found using their LD for that would be otherwise difficult using any other ways of travel.

What a lovely painting! And I really admire Elizabeth for using oils in the RV. Tougher than acrylics!

You have had a wonderful taste of doing research from your LD! Now imagine what it's like for a genealogist (me)!! I have done research from the banks of the Sweetwater River, just south of Lander, Wy. to cemeteries in Albuquerque. I could not count the number of graveyards from which I have transcribed data. My studies have taken me from Connecticut to California, compliments of Lazy Daze mobility in pursuit of my roots and my interest in history!

I'm very sorry for giving the impression we were marketing Elizabeth's book by having her contact information listed. The intention was that if anyone was curious about further discussing the details of our RV research travels or Dr. Safford's life they could easily get in touch with Elizabeth only for that purpose. The marketing of the book is done in other online sites which I will not mention here.

Jon,
I will pass on your observations of Elizabeth's painting medium. Traveling by RV requires a lot of consideration and planning to transport the supplies needed for this activity on the road.

Steve,
We too have done some personal ancestor research while traveling and it is a lot of fun finding more about ones past relatives.

"We too have done some personal ancestor research..."

Glad to hear that you also have interest in your ancestors... it has consumed much of my adult life. I started young by asking why six brothers married six sisters of the nearest family, only to be told they were the only neighbors at that time and place!   :o   ;)
