Lost Hubcab - Help July 23, 2023, 03:52:55 pm Today we lost a rear dually hubcab probably on a section of a very rough road. The hubcap is a Ford E450 Motorhome Dually Wheel Cover 8 lug 4 hole rear snap on. Any suggestions as to where to get a replacement? (My cell service is weak at our campground). Thanks in advance.
Re: Lost Hubcab - Help Reply #1 – July 23, 2023, 04:08:46 pm Hi Ed and Margee; I come up with this: 16" Wheel Simulators | kaper You mentioned 'snap on'. Mine have two opposite nuts that hold the covers on. The caps on those two nuts match the 6 'fake' nuts that are non removable. The attachment method has changed over the years, trying to keep up with changes to lug stud length from Ford. The function is to cover the wheel itself. The gray Ford steel wheel can be pretty ugly after it rusts a bit. Mine has a "K II" stick on insignia. Your more generic insignia badge may be harder to match. RonB
Re: Lost Hubcab - Help Reply #2 – July 23, 2023, 04:44:54 pm Thanks Ron. I drove a few miles to find a cell signal to search online. And I think I found a matching simulator on Amazon. Probably order it in a few days. The one you found that has a locking nut is probably better. Other news … We found a fully shaded campsite which we can move to tomorrow. Much better than the one we reserved online which is in direct sunlight. HOT!The new Atwood adjustable thermostat that I installed last week seems to be working perfectly. The stock thermostat is fixed at 170-180 degrees. I set the adjustable to 130-140 degrees. May even turn it down to 120 degrees. Installation was rather easy. It’s an adventure! 1 Likes
Re: Lost Hubcab - Help Reply #3 – July 23, 2023, 05:49:49 pm On second or third thought, Ron’s recommendation is the smart way to go. We’re ordering a set of 4 with locking nuts. Kaper II SS-E35008-ULT Polished Stainless Steel Ford Wheel Simulator Set (16" X 6", 8 Lug 6.5 Bolt Circle Ford E350 / E450, 4 Hand Hole) We’re going to be much happier knowing that these simulators will be much more difficult to lose. Re: Lost Hubcab - Help Reply #4 – July 23, 2023, 06:06:33 pm Hi Margee or Ed; So is it true that your wheel simulators are only held on by a friction fit?! I imagine some marketing person regarded that as a winning strategy for selling more replacement simulators. My front simulators are also retained by the TST pressure sensor that nestles into the slot for the tire stem. They might rattle around a bit if the retaining nuts were to come off. The back simulators are held on also by the braided ss mesh covered rubber hoses that are mounted to the hubs, where the pressure transmitters are located. I do know a person who used to have a 2001 MB. He lost a wheel because the tire mechanics were unable to figure out how to attach them properly, and he was unable to help them do it right. They also managed to lose the extender part that lengthened the stud enough to hold the simulators on. As with many of us, I remove the simulators before taking it to the tire place. They still often manage to shear off my metal valve stems, and/or extender hoses. RonB 1 Likes
Re: Lost Hubcab - Help Reply #5 – July 31, 2023, 03:53:53 pm A bit of a follow up. The wheel covers or simulators that came with many of our LDs and other brands were made by a company called Dicor. According to customer service at Kaper, they went out of business. The Dicor simulators were a perfect match for the stock rims. However, several of the aftermarket simulators are not as good a match ESPECIALLY if there are extended valve stems. Even though I thought we’d buy those recommended my RonB, at the last minute I ordered a single stimulator for the rear dually. Kaper does not sell single stimulators but either a pair or a set of four. At any rate, the simulator that we received was of poor quality and did not line up with our valve extender. So it looks like we’re going to order a set of four (4) Kapers. I’ll have 3 spares!!My head hurts. 🤕
Re: Lost Hubcab - Help Reply #6 – July 31, 2023, 04:50:56 pm When I took a curb while pulling into Watchman CG in Zion, I searched high and low for a front simulator for our ‘15 LD. My thoughts were that anything but a OEM replacement would not do for similar reasons as mentioned earlier.I called Lazy Daze and was able to get ONE replacement for $75. Shipped to me in about two days. I suppose Todd is all out of stock. He may have a lead. All e450 RV’s I’ve seen have identical simulators. Maybe another manufacturer can help as well. Just a thought.Kent 1 Likes

Re: Lost Hubcab - Help Reply #9 – August 01, 2023, 11:29:52 am Well LD Neighborhood, you won’t believe (or maybe you will) what just happened to us. Something very special and certainly unexpected. One of our Members has graciously offered us a matching wheel simulator that they have after switching to those that bolt on. I’d like to respect this Member’s privacy. However, for those interested in a tiny bit of investigation consider the post immediately above this one. ⬆️This Neighborhood continues to amaze and impress in a world short on these virtues. A public thanks to our kind donor. 🙏 5 Likes
