A Go Bag May 23, 2023, 04:30:51 pm I hadn’t ever really considered developing a GO bag while traveling in the LD. So today I was watching a YouTube video and the RV couple was expecting severe weather to include tornados. They mentioned they had their GO bag ready in case they needed to find better shelter. It’s a mystery to me that it’s taken me this long to recognize the value of that plan.

Well, that beats having a tornado siren trigger that recognition. Living in California with earthquakes and 'seasonal fires', I (and an indeterminate number of others) consider the rig my 'go bag'.'go bag' in the 'go bag' for the 'go bad' is a good idea and I'll start planning something.Joel(old enough to remember 'duck and cover)

Which reminded me of a joke that went around office buildings some time ago. Seems there was a group of terrorist bent on disrupting the California legislature. They visited Sacramento to 'case the joint', saw what was going on, and decided the most destructive thing they could do was to leave it alone. Go bag/bug-out bag always a good thing. 3 Likes

Re: A Go Bag Reply #6 – May 23, 2023, 09:55:06 pm Go Bag; Mostly just fires, and earthquakes. Large destructive earthquakes are very rare despite Hollywood movies to the contrary. Sadly large fires are much more likely. The motorhome as a whole is the 'go bag'. Full of gas, water, emergency food (Compleats), clothing, medicine and ready to move. If the earthquake prevents travel, I may just be 'camping' in the driveway. RonB 1 Likes

I do keep some clothing and food items in my Lazy Daze (even when in storage). Strangely, I just spent a significant amount of time cleaning out a bookshelf in a spare bedroom with long expired food items that I purchased during the pandemic for a "prepper pantry." I hope I never need to utilize a "GO" bag, since I don't plan on making one... 1 Likes

This family was in their RV and there were tornadoes, 70 mph straight line winds and tennis ball size hail forecasted for their location. They had their bug out or Go Bags ready to take with them if they had to abandon their RV and head to a more solid structure. I had not considered a situation in which we’d have to leave our LD and head for a safer place. Just something for us to ponder.

He invited all to come to his home should such events occur... he was living in a 55' double wide mobile home! 1 Likes

Re: A Go Bag Reply #13 – May 25, 2023, 10:31:05 am Ah, time for a story .... we, lb and I, were 'camped' in the Teddy Roosevelt Park South Unit. We (me) was watching the weather on my cell. Looked like a very large group of thunderstorms were heading to the park. A very young (they are all young to me) Park Ranger was going thru the camp telling us that tornados were expected. We should at the warning go to the black house restroom building. My sweet wife packed a Go Bag with our money, ids, and important papers. Lucking we never had to leave the RV. Later that day she showed me the Go Bag. It was filled with the money, id's papers, and a very large amount of her knitting. All I can say is I think I would have added a little bit of food but what do I know?glen 7 Likes
