What goes around... April 29, 2023, 03:44:21 pm This is directed at the many fans of Morro Bay and environs! As many forum members are aware I am an enthusiast of Genealogy! While reading a hunting magazine today I learned that one can hunt deer (Calif. Blacktail) in a vineyard near Paso Robles, CA. Okay, duly noted, but it was the name of the vineyard that was intriguing, Steinbeck Vineyards and Winery. The name Steinbeck should be well known to anyone who has read 'East of Eden' or 'Grapes of Wrath'. And so I learned that John Ernst Steinbeck, Jr., the famous author, is a member of this same family. But what's the connection to Morro Bay?Well, those in the know will say that it gets pretty hot around Salinas and Paso Robles in the summer and a good place to cool off would be at the beach. Morro Bay fits the bill nicely! A certain member who loved to hunt and fish was photographed on the "land Bridge", holding a clam fork, between the Sand Spit and Morro Rock. So for the Lazy Daze folks who have walked that ground, remember that there were other notables who stood there first. 3 Likes
