Installing a TurboKool Evaporative Air Cooler April 16, 2023, 01:58:22 am Has anyone installed a TurboKool Evaporative Air Cooler on their LD roof? Our PlaCool Evaporative Cooler OEM has been removed and we plan to replace it with our old TruboKool. The Turbokool has worked well out here in the west for years on our old itaska. We have had the TurboKool on a shelf for a couple years since I removed it from our itaska. As it turns out the TurboKool frame has a 1/2" lip on bottom of it, so I may have to build a curb on the roof of our 98~MB to place it over to prevent roof water from getting in. I do not remember how it was installed on our old itaska, I think just with foam and calk, it did not leak. The Lip does not get screwed to the roof, two long shaft bolts hold it in place from inside. Karen~Liam 98 ~ MB NinA
Re: Installing a TurboKool Evaporative Air Cooler Reply #1 – April 17, 2023, 09:20:14 am Yes, I have installed a Turbo Kool on a 1988 MB. The Roof vent frame needs to be installed and sealed around the 14x14 opening. Placool to Turbo Kool will require the vent frame to be installed. You will need a drain port front and back to let excess water out of the 1/2" lip. I built a curb of putty tape to rest the 1/2 curb on. there is as aluminum bar to pin the front 1/2 lip down to the roof. Check fitment as the TurboKool requires more frontal area than the Placool and my hit hit the Penguin Air Conditioner. Installation instruction should be available from the current owner of TurboKool. Manuals & Information 1 Likes
Re: Installing a TurboKool Evaporative Air Cooler Reply #2 – April 17, 2023, 01:07:27 pm Rodney Thank You for responding, I thought I had seen that someone in our community had installed one before. I pulled the old Fantastic frame from our old itaska so I installed that one and will use Eturnabond tape around that unit before I mount the TurboKool body on the roof. We have about 4" to 6" clearance between the TK and the roof AC- Lucky! I looked on line for an installation manual just after I wrote the inquiry here and found an installation manual. This morning I also called TurboKool to find out about the availability of parts and if they fit my unit originally from 1997 a RecAir in-case I may need some. I originally installed this unit in 1997 and removed it in 2017, I did not remember much about it till I found the i-manual and then found the old Fantastic fan frame. I had almost thrown that out in one of my last purges from storage, Lucky Again! Karen~Liam 98 ~ MB NinA 1 Likes
