Air Conditioner - Desperate for Help April 11, 2023, 09:29:47 am I am frantic as I am scheduled to leave for a long trip on Saturday and the Dometic air conditioner and heat pump (model 651816.301CO) in my 2017 Mid Bath isn’t working. It stopped working in the fall. Dometic sent me reset instructions and a manual but that didn’t help. I had extreme difficulty finding RV service near where I live in NJ near the PA border. Finally, in December I located a small RV service in PA. They first replaced the AC thermostat as they thought that might be the problem. It still didn’t work. They were on the phone with Dometic’s tech and concluded that the AC needed a new circuit board. They ordered the circuit board which they stated they paid for and expected delivery in March. I repeatedly called the RV service asking about the status of the circuit board and emphasizing that I was soon going on a trip. They kept saying that they paid for it, didn’t know why it hadn’t arrived, they were going to follow up that day and then call me. They repeatedly told me this but never followed up and didn’t return my calls. I even offered to call for them as they were so busy. My son and I went to talk with them in person a few days ago and they assured me that I would have the circuit board and the AC would be fixed for my trip. They said they were going to Elkhart, IN, over the weekend and would bring back a circuit board if the ordered one hadn’t arrived. They did not do that and are blowing me off. I am scheduled to go to Lexington, KY, for the Northeast Lazy Daze campout and then drive to FL where I plan to spend some time. In panic mode I’ve called numerous RV service places and they can’t help me saying that I would need to make appointments months from now. I’m not even sure if the circuit board is actually the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or, places where I could get service? Perhaps even in Lexington, KY, or on the way to FL. Thank you in advance for any suggestions. Monica2017 Mid Bath

Re: Air Conditioner - Desperate for Help Reply #2 – April 11, 2023, 12:55:51 pm I’m no mechanic or electrician but based on my experience with AC failure the first thing to check is the capacitor. You might consider seeking out Mobile RV services for an expedited appointment.Good Luck
Re: Air Conditioner - Desperate for Help Reply #3 – April 11, 2023, 01:02:00 pm "I am frantic as I am scheduled to leave for a long trip... and the air conditioner isn’t working."Dearest Monica,If your venues were Las Vegas in August I could better understand your concerns. However, Kentucky and Florida do not fit the category! Were I you I'd plan to open a few windows and ventilate the rig utilizing the ceiling fans, of which I have five. Only rarely do I ever need air conditioning. YMMV. Sally forth with a good outlook and enjoy the experience! 1 Likes

Re: Air Conditioner - Desperate for Help Reply #5 – April 11, 2023, 01:24:25 pm Hi Monica; Well, it's warming up now in San Diego, but you may not even need the air conditioner. My friends from the Orlando area are arriving here tomorrow. They say the temperatures are cool. 77 degrees right now. Ok I guess that passes as cool there, and 65 at night. Rain 50%. The cab air conditioning should take care of you traveling. The Lexington area shows a high of 72 today dipping down into the 50's for the high this weekend at NELD. You may need the heater more.Greg, (HILOLA) had an issue with his A/C a few months ago. AC Not Working Reply's #47 and #49 were for replacement of his fan motor start capacitor. That part is available from Amazon, and you could take it with you; have it replaced enroute if you think it might be the same issue that Greg experienced on his 2017 MB. The same year as your rig. The Cap that Greg used seems to not be available, but this other one should also work: CBB65B Run Dual Capacitor 250VAC 250V AC 55/15uF 55+15uF 55MFD+15MFD... About $20. Re: Air Conditioner - Desperate for Help Reply #7 – April 14, 2023, 12:56:24 pm Monica, If nothing else works and you can not get your roof unit serviced or working and the temperatures are unbearable to you. You might consider a portable unit and use it in your rear lounge at night and move it in the kitchen area during the day time. You could stop by a Home Depot or other retailer when and in the area that you need it? You may also want to pick up an extension cord to power that portable AC unit from the microwave plug inside the microwave cabinet, that way you are using the circuit dedicated to the microwave. Re: Air Conditioner - Desperate for Help Reply #9 – April 17, 2023, 08:53:53 am After I posted the RV service place in PA finally got back to me. They said they never received the circuit board from Dometic. They also stated that they had checked the capacitor when I first had brought the RV to them. They offered to put in a new Dometic air conditioner with heat pump (same that I had before) and not charge me for labor. In my desperation I had them replace the air conditioner. I am in Lexington, KY, now. It is cold! However, I will be in FL for a while and will have family staying in my RV for my granddaughter's graduation weekend. I will definitely need AC. Thank you all for your responses and suggestions.Monica2017 Mid-Bath 2 Likes
