You could start in Mesa Verde in April, go clockwise and end at Rocky Mountain in September.

Fascinating!

Hadn’t heard of Macadamized before, dates back to 19th century Scotland.

It’s the “mac” in tarmac.

Blacktop (actually RED in parts of AZ), asphalt, macadam, tar, oiled, etc... whatever you please to call it, far better than cement (listen up CA).   :(

'oddly' enough,  there are concrete sections of the old Lincoln Highway that are in better condition now than the current roads around them in Northern California.  Of course they never had big rigs exceeding the 80,000 lb weight limits....
