getting older and older August 22, 2022, 09:48:36 am I often share with my grandkids to be aware that the world we live in today (read the internet) is a 'never forget, never forgive' place. It was not like that when I was their age. <smile> I'd tell them the only reason they know I was the naked hippy running around Golden Gate Park that they see on flashback film on TV was me telling them. Then my local paper posted this story......Grateful Dead’s 1972 Oregon concert saved Kesey family dairy, became...No, I wasn't at this concert but I did knew Ken Kesey on a personal level. But that's a story for another day.glenFor those that would like to hear GD jamming the song by itself.https://youtu.be/Xe2u7ogAgtQ 6 Likes

Re: getting older and older Reply #3 – August 24, 2022, 03:10:31 pm Thanks for sharing! You knew Kesey? 👍 although I did meet him at a book reading in 1991. I didn’t get “on the bus” until the early 80’s so I missed this legendary show, but it is on most people’s top 10 Dead shows, especially the transcendent Dark Star. 1972 is my favorite year; the band was at its peak imho. Dog in my avatar is named Stella Blue 😂Here’s an interesting podcast commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Veneta show with lots of creamery history, part 2 due to drop tomorrow:GOOD OL' GRATEFUL DEADCAST: Sunshine Daydream: Veneta, 8/27/72, part 1 on... 1 Likes

You knew Kesey?<smile> Let's just say my brother and I smoked a few at the Dead house just off Haight. Spent a few days and nights discussing life's great issues. We all were young and stupid. Ken Kesey was riding high from the selling of the movie rights of "Sometimes a Great Notion". He, Ken Kesey, sold Oregon as a place to live to me. But it would be a few years before I followed him there. Sometimes a Great Notion - Wikipediaglen 1 Likes
Re: getting older and older Reply #5 – August 25, 2022, 11:19:11 am "...the Dead house just off Haight."I lived on Masonic, two blocks off of Haight. Left there in '61! It was a good neighborhood back then! I used to enjoy listening to Johnny Mathis do his thing in a neighborhood bar before he got discovered and went big time. Did you know that Johnny's dad was a garbage man for S.F.?I also liked to see the Smothers' Brothers down in North Beach, when there were three in the group. Whole lot of memories in that City by the Bay. 2 Likes
Re: getting older and older Reply #6 – August 25, 2022, 12:18:37 pm The Dead were grate. Saw many a dead concert. Drove up to Donner Pass and saw them in person at an outdoor show on a ski slope. Fun times we’re had by all. From my seat on the slope, they were much smaller than ants but their vibes were loud and clear.By far my favorite Dead show was at the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach, California back in the 70’s. My friends and I were about ten from the band. Sipping wine coolers and dazed by our amazing proximity to Gerry’s blazing fingers was almost too hard to believe. When it was all over, we made our way back outside blown away by what we had just experienced. Another close encounter of the rock kind was seeing America at the Whiskey A-Go-Go in LA. Not old enough to drink at the time we settled for cokes. Again, the band was only a few feet away. Never again and certainly a daze to remember. How things have changed.Kent 1 Likes
