Vertical seam reseal fail May 28, 2022, 10:02:39 am Last fall we resealed the end caps and vertical seams on the back of our 1995 Lazy Daze. We thought we followed directions using 3m 5200 but it's already cracking in the middle of the seam in multiple places on the vertical seams and horizontally on the end caps. Since I can't find information on failure of 3m 5200 online I think we did something wrong. We may not have applied it thick enough or pushed it into the crack well since it's not peeling off, just cracked in the middle. Do you think this is what most likely went wrong? Should we scrape it all off and redo it or can we apply another bead over the top to fix it?
Re: Vertical seam reseal fail Reply #1 – May 30, 2022, 06:42:13 pm The problem is from the lack of preparation.When the caps have cracks in the existing sealant or the caps are lifting, the old sealant needs to be cut away and gaps cleaned out, rinsed clean with solvent, and then taped with masking tape before applying the 5200.There are many previous postings about how to do this properly.
