Driving a Lazy Daze as compared to a moving truck?
Greetings!  I have never drive an RV before however I have driven a 14 ft moving truck from CA to OR.  It was a decent experience albeit some parts were a bit terrifying...like wind gusts.  I definitely learned to go slower and keep right.  I also only had one layer of stuff in the cargo of the moving truck, so it wasn't as weighted in the back as it could have been.

I'm curious how driving a LD compares to driving a moving truck?    I am imagining that with a more weighted vehicle, the gust driving may not be AS bad?  Maybe the difference between the two is night and day.  or not.  So, I ask :)

We are definitely planning to rent an RV of similar layout before buying a used LD -  to know what we need to know and get a feel for it as we prepare to buy.  We are very interested in the 31 IB models and saw a local model in person last weekend.  SO amazing!

I would love to rent an actual LD however there are none for rent in our area of the PNW, so far as I have seen.

What say you experienced folk, and, thank you!  :D

Go rent a 27 ft U-Haul.  It's the same chassis as the 27/31 ft models.

I would say very similar to drive but maybe more comfortable.

Smaller than you’re looking for, but if you don’t like this one, obviously bigger won’t be better.

Many E450s, the chassis used by LD, are bought by U-Haul and converted into moving vans.
Rent a longer van and see what you think. If a 14' van was comfortable to drive, you will quickly get used to the longer length of an LD.

Not much difference.   Ford says you got max 14,000 pds of gross weight.   Max gross weight of heavy trucks is 80,000 so they will displace more air aka win the battle.    You will be 'pushed' by trucks and car passing you.   The direction of the wind will impact driving.   Side winds are the most interesting ones.   It's all about weight and length.
I'm can get my 24 ft TK into and out of just about any spot.   You must always like for an 'escape'.   No issues with any legal street.   <smile> problem is not all parking spaces, streets and highways are legal.   You will learn with experience - trust me.   We all have been there.

My experience has been Laze Daze(1987 MP and a 2003 t/k) drives better and a u-haul truck.  I"ve rented different size u-haul trucks a number of different times.  Lightly loaded or unloaded u-haul trucks the shocks are terrible, make your teeth fall out of your mouth terrible.  Without much weight the wind can also really push the truck around.   Besides that not much difference in parking.

Ah, they are renting it out again.  It was unavailable for awhile.  I spoke with them.  They are very nice and were happy to share their experiences :)

Thank you for all your input.  I had thought to rent a larger Uhaul to see what the longer length is like.  And we can rent the LD 22 from the family on Outdoorsy just to get the LD experience itself.

WOOT WOO!  Thank you!
