Dreaded Leak in Roof!
Hello! We are in Dayton, Ohio right now and discovered a roof leak in our 2000 MB after several days of heavy rain :o . This link will take you to a video that shows the leak, which is coming in through the ceiling in the rear cabinet on the passenger side. We've read some posts in the lazy daze forum and other corners of the internet, and we're not confident in our ability to investigate and repair this issue ourselves. Does anyone know of & recommend an RV repair shop in Ohio or within in a few hours of Dayton (like northern Kentucky or eastern Indiana) that could potentially help us with this problem? Thanks as always...we really appreciate the help of this community!

From looking at the Lazy Daze Facebook group, it appears you are Andrew and Meredith?

I looked at your original video of the water leaking inside and then your recent video taken from the roof. Whoever engineered that solar panel installation......I frankly am at a loss for words as to what to say.  The roof vent is covered, the TV antenna is covered, and I would *guess* that there were some interesting holes put in that roof too. It also looks like there is some tape overlapping the roof seal to the side that may be an attempt to seall something. On the FB group you have expressed reluctance to use Eternabond because the LD factory won't even attempt  to remove it.  You folks have big problems which I think were brought on by that solar installation. There are so many holes that must have been put in that roof for those solar mounts...

What to do? First off, park the coach so it is tilted to the front. Perhaps try to have the rear passenger side become the high point so water runs away from the area with the leak. You badly need to prevent more water intrusion. Next, I would buy some Dicor roof sealant to use around any and all places where there are vents, solar panel mounts, etc. Also, get some Eternabond tape. There are some other brands of it sold at places like Camping World and other Rv dealers. Whatever you do, DO NOT USE OR LET ANYONE USE SILICONE SEALANTS in an attempt to stop the leak. Nothing will stick to silicone in the future.

If you want to seek repairs, I would check on Dave Arborgast Rv in Troy, Ohio. I live in the Cleveland, Ohio area but I have had one interaction with that dealership and they seemed ethical to me. I did not have any service work done, but if I was in your area, I would start there.

Good luck!

Dear Slunky,

I can only find the video you provided and don't see the view from the roof Steve references.  However, in addition to Steve's suggestions, I would bungee a plastic tarp on the roof over the suspected source of the leak for the time being.  This should help while you are parked anyway.  I wouldn't want to risk driving far or at speed with the tarp in place as those things tend to shred quickly in the wind.  Then I would try Steve's suggestion for a nearby repair shop asap.
