House Battery Trickle Charger December 07, 2021, 08:44:16 am 2008 MB - Storing my 2 brand new 6v Duracell batteries in garage for the winter, I’m confused on what type of trickle charger (or other device?) I need. Any help is much appreciated!
Re: House Battery Trickle Charger Reply #1 – December 07, 2021, 09:02:25 am This "Battery Tender" trickle charger brand is what I have used for several 12VDC batteries on our ranch over the years. It works as advertised. Currently I am using about four of them now on several pieces of farm equipment. Each battery will need a separate charger. <Amazon.com: Battery Tender Plus 12V Battery Charger and Maintainer: 1.25 AMP...; 1 Likes As an Amazon Associate Lazy Daze Owners' Group earns from qualifying purchases.
Re: House Battery Trickle Charger Reply #2 – December 07, 2021, 09:40:36 am I usually leave my RV plugged into to just a regular 120v outlet over the winter. I've never had an issue with the batteries boiling over and I make sure the water is topped off for the winter season. Has anyone had an issue doing this? 2 Likes
Re: House Battery Trickle Charger Reply #3 – December 07, 2021, 11:29:47 am Hi KMK20; You would need two 6 volt battery tenders, one for each battery. Or you could get a lightweight wire to connect the batteries as they are connected in the motorhome. Wire between positive of one battery and negative of the other. Use a 12 VDC battery tender between the leftover negative terminal of one battery to the leftover positive terminal of the other. It doesn't need to be a heavy duty wire because you won't be taking out any current, and you will just be putting in a trickle of current to keep them charged. Number 18 AWG would be sufficient. (I can't believe the high prices!, don't pay $50 for something so simple, they aren't worth it) Another Harbor freight charger. I have one, and it has been working for years. https://www.harborfreight.com/automatic-battery-float-charger-64284.html (12vdc only, you will need the jumper wire.) Re: House Battery Trickle Charger Reply #4 – December 07, 2021, 01:41:57 pm We have the same Harbor freight charger which we connect up to our battery bank in our LD instead of using the charging system in the LD, it works great. Our door on our building uses an 12v motor to open which is connected to a 12v battery which we have one of these Harbor freight chargers for over fifteen years and the same battery.
