Dawn Powerwash Dish Spray
I saw this at Target and thought it may help in saving water when washing the few dishes I have.  Does anyone have any experience with this or have another recommendation?  I do wipe out any excess food from the pot/plate/bowl with a paper towel before the food dries and gets hard.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I haven't used it. I wipe down dishes and such with a solution of water and vinegar.

A sprayer is an effective way to evenly distribute a small amount of cleaning solution on a dish, and that can help to save water. Any sprayer will do--you can buy them in gardening departments or online--and you don't have to buy a special product such as Dawn's. Also, you don't have to put up with typical heavily scented cleaning products.

One concern with this approach is that you're inevitably going to breath in some of the aerosol mist you create. That may or may not be a problem, but if it concerns you, another way to tackle dishes is with a foaming soap dispenser. A small squirt of foam is easy to spread over a dish, and the amount of cleaning solution is minimal. I fill my dispenser with about 60/40 dishwashing detergent and water.

Wiping dishes as clean as possible with a paper towel before food has a chance to dry is crucial, as John pointed out. If you do that, you'll need very little soap or vinegar and water to get them completely clean. I use half of a paper towel as a napkin, then after eating, use that to wipe off the dish as soon as I get up from the table. Then I wash the dish immediately. Doing that saves a lot of water, compared to setting dirty dishes in the sink and washing them later.

I've used it for a couple of years. Works great for me.

Yes, you still need to remove as much food debris as possible with a paper towel (preferably she the plate, pan or pot is still warm). Spray on the Dawn let it sit a it then use a scrubber sponge.

I like it for dried egg yolks on plate and everything in my Instant Pot.

It is also a great spot treatment for laundry. For heavy soil, spray and rub in some oxiclean, works wonders most of the time.

Speaking of scrubber sponges... I use blue (non scratching) ones which I cut in half, because I find that half a sponge is a convenient size. But sponges accumulate food debris, and can start to smell bad after a while. Some folks have suggested microwaving them to sterilize them, but aside from wasting power, this can reportedly lead to a fire if not done carefully.

I use a different method. Every morning I heat water in my teakettle to make tea or coffee. There's always a little left over, and I pour that over my sponge. It sterilizes the sponge, and doesn't seem to harm it. And my sponges never smell bad.

I use a bra lingerie bag to wash my sponges and scrubbers. Into the washing machine they go!

IMO, it's a little pricey for dish soap and I just use the regular Dawn that I buy at the Dollar Tree.  My main concern with washing dishes in my RV is sterilization - especially when I'm in Mexico.  I usually just save the (hot) water I rinse with to flush the toilet.  Sometimes I add a bit of bleach to the rinse water, but usually don't flush it down my system.  Sponges are usually cheap enough that when one is "smelly and used" I just toss it.

Thanks to everyone for your helpful responses.  Deb… it’s good to know firsthand that Dawn Dish Spray is working for you.  I bought a bottle and have high hopes it will work well for me too.  Andy… I always buy foaming antiseptic hand soap when I can find it, but I didn’t know you could buy just the dispensers.  Thanks for the Amazon link.  You wouldn’t have a good antiseptic soap recipe would you?  Cheryl… sponges are a Dollar Tree purchase too.  Very cheap and easily tossed when they’ve outlived their usefulness.

I add dawn and water softner to about 4 gallons of water to both the blk and grey tanks ( once empty and rinsed) for my ride home...it washes back and forth as i brake and acclerate....i empty in a bucket then toliet.....just an addition to help keep tanks clear of grease build up on walls...

"You wouldn’t have a good antiseptic soap recipe would you?"

Any soap or detergent is antiseptic, so I don't go to any lengths to make special formulations. But there are plenty of recipes online--just do a search with Google or DuckDuckGo. Here's one I found:

By the way, if you already have a bottle of foaming hand soap, there's no need to buy a new one when it's used up--just refill it with whatever you like. I only bought empties because the pumps in my purchased foaming soap bottles eventually wore out.

We just returned from our six-week Fall vacation during which we tried Dawn Powerwash at the suggestion of a fellow camper.
Our experience is similar to Deb's, it works fine for pots and pans with baked-on debris, the type of stuff where, when at home, it would get soaked overnight or for a few hours, helping to save a bit of water.
For simple dish washing, a scrub sponge and dish soap works as well as the spray, IMO.
