SmartPlug installation tips: expect lots of glue September 03, 2021, 10:22:25 am I just had a SmartPlug 30A inlet installed. It took the installer half an hour to remove the old inlet because, of course, there was a great deal of glue. All the work can be done from the outside; there's no need to access the back of the old inlet. Once the old inlet was out, there was plenty of wire attached. The SmartPlug comes with a gasket with adhesive on one side. It's not clear from the installation instructions which side the adhesive goes on. I phoned SmartPlug support, who said that if the RV side is smooth, it can go on either the side of the RV or on the SmartPlug itself. The installer put the adhesive side on the SmartPlug, which should make things easier if the inlet ever needs to be replaced. The inlet requires 4 screws but comes with none. The old inlet had 3 screws, so one more screw was needed, a 1-inch #8 stainless steel pan head. The new inlet fit perfectly in the existing hole. The outside doesn't cover quite as much as the old inlet, so narrow slivers of shiny aluminum are visible on the left and right sides. The whole installation took slightly over an hour. 5 Likes As an Amazon Associate Lazy Daze Owners' Group earns from qualifying purchases.
