2016 Mid-bath - Composting Toilet Installation May 11, 2021, 12:07:19 am Saw the 2016 mid-bath with a composting toilet in the classified section and see there's curiosity about how the toilet was installed; we actually looked at this one before ending up with our 2018 (with a "regular" toilet).Couldn't convince my husband he'd be ok with a composting toilet; we've always had rigs with a black tank.He was neither willing to carry the pee bottle out through the rig every day nor to risk an overflow situation YMMVWe had the original owner remove the composting toilet to see how the installation was done.It simply snaps onto the platform with a latch on each side of the toilet. The latches unsnap to remove the pee bottle and the compartment containing the composting materials.Original owner installed the composting toilet as soon as she got the rig and never used the black tank. To install the composting toilet they removed original toilet and the dais leaving just the platform, enlarged the hole in the lower platform to just a bit smaller than the composting toilet base, screwed down bases for the latches, and fed the exhaust vent line into the existing black tank pipe under the platform. Black tank valve was already missing (it fell off at some point) so the toilet exhaust/black tank pipe vented directly to the outside. Would think otherwise they'd have needed to poke a hole in the side of the rig to keep/repurpose the black tank. Don't recall where they tapped in to power the exhaust fan.As far as whether it's reversible, it all depends on who you ask. Todd at the factory was unwilling to re-install a regular toilet for us since he didn't like that they'd cut a bigger hole in the platform. On the other hand, I found an RV place in CO Springs who said no problem at all to reinstall a regular toilet. As for me, I'm holding onto hope for an incinerating toilet someday! 2 Likes
