Replacing the roof A/C 2006RB February 12, 2021, 08:42:58 pm I should have known! The unit is “glued” down with butyl tape. After 15 years it took judicious use of a big crowbar to break it loose. Initially it looked like an impossible task. It didn’t budge.Anyhow, I replaced the original 13,500 BTU unit that had seen it’s better days with a Dometic NXT Blizzard 15000 BTU unit. Don’t know how well it is gonna work yet but it has to be better than the previous one. 2 Likes
Re: Replacing the roof A/C 2006RB Reply #1 – February 13, 2021, 10:02:07 am I replaced the unit in our 2007 and expected it to be a chore, as Vince said it was well secured. They missed using any tape and it popped right out. Tip, using a bottle jack and a 2x4 will remove anything glued to the roof in a jiffy.I did not install it with any tape. Tip, after tightening it down, return with a water hose a few days later and see it leaks. It will be difficult to tell as the water will drain on the ceiling to the low point as determined by how the rig is leaning. Don't ask me how I know. 1 Likes
Re: Replacing the roof A/C 2006RB Reply #2 – February 14, 2021, 01:23:09 am The AC power line in the NXT Blizzard is in the air return side of the unit. The LD AC power line ends up in the cold air outlet side making the install rather difficult. The connector provided does not handle LD’s solid core wire. You will have to get creative. These problems are not trivial.With 70F ambient temperature (Phoenix) it put out a lot of cold air. We will see what summer brings.
