Is the Original LD Factory ROOF paint "polyurethane"? February 07, 2021, 11:37:04 am The answer to this question must be somewhere in the Companion or the Search feature, but after reading hundreds of posts was unable to find the answer. Is the original LD factory aluminum roof sprayed with polyurethane, or another paint type?Cheers!Tony R. (aka codefour)

Reply #1 – February 07, 2021, 12:39:53 pm I can’t say what type of paint is used on the roof but I can say that the factory receives the one piece aluminum roofs pre-painted. I was interested in how the aluminum roof and side panels were bonded together because of my ham radio hobby. Todd told me that the roof came in pre-painted but he didn’t say what type of paint was used. I doubt that the factory would pay for the roof to be pre-painted and then paint over it. I hope this helps.- John 1 Likes

Reply #2 – February 07, 2021, 01:12:48 pm While this does not address the core question here's what I think I know! Some time in the distant past (foggy) I recall that the paint on the roof is 'textured' (non-slip) for safety reasons. All you need do is run your hand over the surface to see what I mean.

Reply #3 – February 07, 2021, 01:19:19 pm The thickness of the aluminum roofing changed with 2008 models (see the "Changes by Year" link on the home page of the forum), but I don't know whether the composition of the paint applied to the thicker panels changed then, or whether the painted panels used on current LDs use the same paint composition and are from the same supplier as early/earlier models. Steve at LD would know the answers to these questions.

Each panel can be changed if damaged. The roof of the Motor Home is covered by an aluminum panel and is sun and tear resistant. Re: Is the Original LD Factory ROOF paint "polyurethane"? Reply #6 – February 08, 2021, 10:09:17 am I was up on the roof several times yesterday, doing maintenance and exploring, and it seemed pretty smooth to me. If there is an abrasive, it’s very subtle. The good news is, it didn’t seem slippery.
Re: Is the Original LD Factory ROOF paint "polyurethane"? Reply #7 – February 08, 2021, 12:38:52 pm When taking delivery of my new 2021 LD, I noticed unevenness in the painting of the roof....scuffs and a few missed spots. I was told by Todd that the roof comes pre-painted and they add a mist coat of the white paint which adds a bit of texture. He said the uneven coat was common because of the way that misting happens.Kinda sounds like they just don't tape off the roof when painting the white on the rest of the body and the resulting overspray and a bit more added is the "texturizing" 2 Likes
