One Trip Permit (Transporting new LD from CA to state of residence) February 05, 2021, 12:19:16 am Quote from: Mottleycru - February 04, 2021, 10:25:27 pmSounds like you have a good solid plan. We are having problems getting Kentucky DMV to agree to allow us to prepay our registration and taxes so we can get our plates to drive. They are saying the local sheriff has to inspect the chassis to verify the VIN and can't do it virtually. I showed the sheriff the VIN but he said he can't accept it as correct until he sees the vehicle. Also they say the fire chief has to inspect for safety before we can register the vehicle since it is a camper. I asked for temporary tags and they said I can't get them until it's inspected. They told me to get transport tags from CA but if I'm not paying CA taxes, I doubt that will happen. Our state only has 6 % sales tax so I was hoping to pay that rather than CA tax. I'm going to call Todd again at LD and see if he has a suggestion. My husband is considering having it shipped to KY under cover at this point.

You WILL get a transport permit so you can drive back to KY. Then you pay sales tax to KY instead of CA. The driver is arranged by Lazy Daze. It's relatively painless.Linda BGreen 2021 RB "Lidia" ordered Jan 10, 2020delivered Dec 8, 2020 3 Likes

Re: One Trip Permit (Transporting new LD from CA to state of residence) Reply #3 – February 05, 2021, 10:08:27 am just want another data point ....we prepaid and got papers from the factory with in 2-3 days of pre paying. NJ DMV is only by appointment and I had only one shot as there are no more appointments available before we go for pickup. All papers from factory were in good order and it took only 5 minutes and 8+K of sales tax and registration to get title and new plates.NJ also has inspection requirement which need to happen within 15 days. Registration folks were not authorized to give me an extension for inspection but I have an email from NJ DMV inspection department stating that I can get the inspection done as soon as I come back to NJ and there will not be any penalty for inspection delays. Of course this email paper copy is staying with rest of the papers. 1 Likes

I do have NJ Manufacturer for cars, home, umbrella and now motorhome and am with them for 30+ years perhaps history helped but process was very simple. 1 Likes

I simply called my insurance company, AAA, after we made the purchase and they insured me right then and there so I could drive back to California. The insurance agent emailed me the proof of insurance and I showed it to the DMV clerk on my phone to satisfy them. 1 Likes

Most certainly. Every state, every insurer is different. This goes for taxes and licensing, permanent and temporary, as well. Make the phone calls.Chris 1 Likes

I am buying from Florida and driving it back to Massachusetts. I've inquired about the 30 day registration. I will contact AAA fir insurance. My current company will not issue insurance until it is registered in MA. 2 Likes
