Paint Flakes Off Window Frames January 28, 2021, 12:21:28 pm This has been an ongoing problem for me. I have never heard of anyone else with the problem. The paint flakes off the window frames. I first used an acid etch then painted. Also tried Aluminum Black.Neither does much good.Has anyone experienced this issue and solved it?

Re: Paint Flakes Off Window Frames Reply #2 – February 13, 2021, 01:49:58 pm Sorry Don. A 1999, still with no flakes, and a friend's 2001 that I refurbished for three months, with extensive inspection, no flakes. I've seen quite a few other Lazy Dazes, and not noticed any flakes. I can only assume that there was a production run, by a LD vendor, where some step was missed, or faulty cleaning chemical, or something... on your window frames. I would completely remove one frame and farm it out to someone who could do a chemical strip, then 'powder coat' with bake step. If you've ever watched those car 'reality' shows I've seen at least one where that was done to some aluminum parts. RonB 1 Likes

Re: Paint Flakes Off Window Frames Reply #4 – February 13, 2021, 04:47:50 pm I have not had any window frame paint flaking on my 2003. I wasn't aware that the frames were "painted"; the surface of all the window frames appears to be "anodized".

OK, then it must been a bad run as Ron suspected. No way am I taking most of the windows out - again. I will just live with it. I should have never taken myself off the list for a new one. I would have it by now. Of course, I would not have used it yet. But maybe someday.

RonBCompletely agree, the aluminum surface texture indicates the LD supplier skipped or did a poor job in the critical step of anodizing the frame for paint adhesion.
Re: Paint Flakes Off Window Frames Reply #7 – February 14, 2021, 12:23:42 pm Hehr has long supplied windows to LD and about every other RV mfg.
Re: Paint Flakes Off Window Frames Reply #8 – April 01, 2021, 03:16:39 pm I too have the black coming off the outside of the windows. Additionally, inside near the latches the paint has come off probably from use where our fingers hit the frame to open the windows. I did find the Hehr makes a touch up paint pen part number H0816-013, but at $30 I'll try to come up with something else.
