Fresh water tank leak September 01, 2020, 08:09:59 am I filled my fresh water tank as we were going on a trip where there were no water hook-ups. Noticed water flowing under the rig. I located a mobile RV technician who came by and found a crack at the junction of the fresh water pump pipe to the fresh water tank. He was of the opinion that the entire tank would need to be replaced and suggested contacting Lazy Daze (they are closed for vacation). Does anyone know if such a crack can be repaired or does the entire tank need to be replaced?

Re: Fresh water tank leak Reply #2 – September 01, 2020, 10:14:00 am This is surprising - where the fitting to the pump attaches to the tank, the receiver boss on the tank is very thick. I could see the replaceable fitting cracking, but not the tank at that location. If it is hard to see, the tank is removable, which usually involves removing a lot of staples. If there is the beginning of a split at that location, it can probably be repaired, and/or the fitting attachment sealed with 3M 5200 fast cure. This will delay the trip, though, while the sealant cures.Steve 1 Likes
Re: Fresh water tank leak Reply #3 – September 01, 2020, 07:11:56 pm We had a crack at the drain. We did our own repair with a plastic welder and traditional plumbing fittings. I posted the pictures here. pin prick size water tank leak
Re: Fresh water tank leak Reply #4 – September 01, 2020, 08:14:33 pm If the tank is actually cracked, the only permanent cure is removal and repair using a hot-air plastic welder. The plastic used in the freshwater and holding tanks does not bond well to any known adhesives, it needs to be melted to remove and repair the crack. Some RV shops and most plastic fabrication shops have hot-air welding equipment. A crack might be sealable with 5200 or plastic epoxy for the short term but it's not a permanent solution.Larry 1 Likes
Re: Fresh water tank leak Reply #5 – September 24, 2020, 08:19:07 am Took the rig into Lazy Daze. Todd arranged for the manufacturer of the tank to repair the leak. LD staff removed the tank and the tank connection was drilled out and repaired. My cost was the labor. Happy to be able to get on the road again. 6 Likes
