New Shoe Storage August 14, 2020, 05:58:24 pm I have always used the driver side lounge of my MB as a full-time bed. I finally "upgraded" from the lounge cushion to a twin size mattress (had to cut 4.5 inches off the bottom to fit). The width of the new mattress presented me with the opportunity to create a shoe storage space under the pull-out portion of the "bed slide". I removed the upholstery and padding and cut holes into the facia to make shoes easy to access. I also painted with one of the colors I'm using elsewhere in the LD. I'd already been using a homemade bed skirt to cover the dated upholstery. The bed skirt hides the shoes from view. Most of my shoes are black, blue, or dark gray so they may be hard to see in the pictures I've included.I treated the passenger side lounge the same way but there is very little room for anything other than long thin objects.Oh, I also installed new vinyl plank flooring (that was an adventure!). :-) 13 Likes
Re: New Shoe Storage Reply #1 – August 14, 2020, 06:57:39 pm Wow, that is really a great idea! But it wouldn't work for us. We sleep on the twin beds, only partially pulled out. My wife loves her shoes. If we travel for more than a week or two she takes a bin full of shoes situated in the overhead bunk. Charles 1 Likes

As I recall, her shoe collection and other excesses were built by ripping off the people she and her husband were supposed to be serving/representing. That you think my tiny shoe collection might make me related or even in the same league... I don't know how to respond to that. All jokes aside, I have the exact number of shoes I want/need... for now. :-) 2 Likes

Re: New Shoe Storage Reply #13 – August 16, 2020, 07:31:54 pm Yes indeed which shoes to take when we leave on an RV trip is quite the dilemma! I usually end up with flip flops, hiking shoes, cycling shoes, crocs, slippers, sandals and tennis shoes. My husband has a similar variety and he wears size 11 so where to keep shoes is often an issue! I like your storage option Deb! Re: New Shoe Storage Reply #15 – August 17, 2020, 10:18:50 am Shoes are an issue for us also. It seems I (the male) like to put my discarded shoes where LB (the female) likes to put her feet. The issue have not been resolved in over 30 years of husband/wife debate. glen 2 Likes
Re: New Shoe Storage Reply #16 – August 17, 2020, 11:02:01 am Here’s a great “shoe-lution” to all of our storage issues. Betcha I’d still be storing my shoes under the dinette table.https://youtu.be/Yuk6MZtJhu4https://youtu.be/eQdcwpxD_uoKent 1 Likes
Re: New Shoe Storage Reply #17 – August 17, 2020, 12:54:43 pm There's not a great deal of interior storage in a TK, so my shoe solution was cheap, low-tech, and nowhere near as creative as Deb's, i.e., this hanging shoe "shelf".Amazon.com: Whitmor Hanging Shoe Shelves - 8 Section - Closet Organizer -... I cut off one or two of the compartments on the bottom (too long for the closet pole height) and hung the thing at one end of the closet. I don't fulltime, so footwear is "seasonal" as needed; big rain boots usually ride in the passenger footwell. YMMV, as always. Re: New Shoe Storage Reply #18 – August 17, 2020, 02:44:42 pm Joan's solution for shoes also works splendidly for a lot of items that like to go along for the ride. I use two of a larger version within the closet in our RB by slipping plastic shoe-type boxes or sturdy cardboard boxes inside of the openings, while the overdoor shoe holder goes on the door of the closet, thusly. Re: New Shoe Storage Reply #19 – August 17, 2020, 07:24:46 pm I no longer query the Admiral regarding the number of shoes she owns and she doesn't inquire about my motorcycles. The perfect number of each is n+1, where n = the number presently in posession. My wise father often told me that "A gentleman never questions another person's hobby".Deb, perhaps you might need another pair to complete your collection?Harold 4 Likes
