Just an update for those on the list.  I spoke again with Todd yesterday. He actually called me and said someone with a 2021 chassis with the tech package had backed out and offered it to me. I told him we will hold off for the 2022 chassis which he expects will start arriving next year in February or March.  By the way, he will be out of the office all of next week if you need to talk to him.

Curious as to why you are waiting for the 2022?

A couple reasons. The timing works out better for me, and I prefer not to get the first year of a new chassis.  But the biggest reason is, 22 is my favorite number!  😆

Oh, and I’m still holding out hope that I can find a used unit before obligating for a new one.

YMMV!

Would it be possible to make sure my thinking is correct? When a customer's name makes its way to the top of the waitlist, an individual is able to put their order on hold. How long will the mother ship hold their order?

Good question.

Initially we wanted to have delivery in Nov. 2019 and after receiving the package our plans change and factory accommodated our request to move the delivery to Nov 2020. I think chassis is ordered after you fill out the form and send your deposit. In our case, to show that we are serious thought we are delaying the delivery I sent the deposit anyway. I don't think sending a deposit earlier then needed made any difference though.

It appears there is some flexibility on when you are able to take delivery. You may want to give Todd a call and ask specifics.

A question for the group: Are all the chassis LD acquires from Ford the same length when received, then extended by LD according to model need, or does Ford send different length chassis?

Greg, Ford manufactures the E450 Cutaway in two wheelbases; 158 and 176 inches. Lazy Daze buys both versions and has the 176 inch version extended to 211 inches for the 31' models. The 24' models use the 158 inch WB chassis and the 27' models use the 176 inch WB chassis.

Thanks, Larry.

On the Pocket Guide splash page, the Specifications: 2019 link takes you to the 2021 spec sheet instead of the 2019 spec sheet on the LD website, so the moderators may want to update that.

Thanks, Greg. I've asked Steve to fix this.

Thanks, Charles. So the 31' model is the only one modified in house.

I'm not sure, but I don't think the stretching of the 176" wheelbase to 211" is done "in house"; you might want to ask Todd where LD has the chassis modified.

I agree; I always thought they contracted out the Ford chassis lengthening. When we used to visit we never saw anything that would lead to us thinking they did this in-house.

When ordering 31 IB November 2013, Todd said I had the last 2013 176" frame and he'd send it to the extender that week.
So they don't 'stretch' in-house.

LD uses a nearby fabricator to stretch the 176" frame, the same company that builds their towing hitch plates and other steel parts used in LDs
Stretching the frame is a complicated task, besides the frame, the brake lines, parking brake cables, fuel lines, emission lines, drive shaft and the electrical all need extending.
It requires a lot of specialized knowledge and tools.
