Removing the bunk mattress in a 26.5 mid bath.
We just acquired a 2004 LD mid bath.  We are going to start in on a remodel, I hope sooner than later, new flooring, new upholstery etc,   I would like to know if anyone has removed the mattress up on the front bunk?  Upon examining it, it seems to be really firmly affixed.  Wondering what the easiest and most effective approach is.  Also, if anyone has done this, was the mattress replaced in the same manner, or are there other creative suggestions?

There is only one way to remove the mattress. Fold back the material on the front and locate the several dozen screws that go through the mattress cover into the overhead platform and remove them. You may find some staples. I can't recall, it's been years.

Yes, you can put it back in, no worries and don't have to use as many screws.

We had a 1997 mid-bath. The mattress attachment may have been similar to your coach's, or not.

I removed well over 100 staples to get the mattress out. I don't remember removing screws, but if there were some, the effort to find and remove them must have been small compared to the staples.

Once removed, I cut some interlocking foam "exercise floor" squares to fit where the mattress plywood went. I finished that off with a t-shaped trim. It looked pretty nice.

The mattress could be dropped back in place without fastening. I don't know if it could be used that way, or if it would move while the coach was in motion (danger of heavy, loose, overhead object).

I put the mattress in a mattress bag and sold it with the coach. The new owner asked if it could be fastened back in place, and I said "Sure, but don't use as many staples!"
