Spotted: PUMA!
We were driving back to L.A. from Sacramento yesterday (car, not rig) on the I-5. After a late breakfast at Harris Ranch, we were tooling along about halfway to Kettleman City when Loni gasped, did a double take, and swerved her head around to the right and back. “I just saw a puma!”  It was on the west side of the highway, pacing along at the edge of the grove of trees alongside. What it was doing so far from what we thought would have been its more natural habitat I can’t fathom. She got a good look at it. Not a dog, not a bobcat, but the genuine article. Not our usual Sunday drive!  — Jon

Rare to spot them during the day but every once in a while, someone in our community gets a shot of one. Our neighbor caught a mama and youngster on her night critter cam a few months back. I would post the video but the LDO website doesn’t support the file.

More commonly seen here during the day are bobcat.
