TPMS questions May 18, 2019, 12:02:29 am I've read the Companion article and various postings on the forum, but I have a question that hasn't been addressed:We bought a 2017 Jeep Wrangler two years ago. The Jeep has tire pressure sensors mounted INSIDE each wheel and they show the tire pressure on the dash display. I am curious if the radio signal emitted by each existing sensor will interfere with added sensors on a 10 wheel system that has sensors added to the end of the valve stem? Each wheel will then have two tire pressure sensors, one inside the wheel (stock) and one screwed onto the valve stem.Does anyone have a newer Jeep and added a TPMS system? Which brand and any interference problems?Harold
Re: TPMS questions Reply #1 – May 18, 2019, 01:19:09 am I can't speak to the jeep, but the is no problem with the Honda TPMS sensors and TST sensors on my 2011 CRV.The following is a SWAGSince each sensor has it's own 'unique' code the two should not interfere with each other. The internal tire ones are known to the car system and the others are ignored by the car. There could be the question of why my TST TPMS Monitor does not pick up the internal ones for the tow'd. No idea of what the answer would be.Perhaps this helps....Joel
Re: TPMS questions Reply #2 – May 18, 2019, 10:06:54 am Thanks Joel. I think I'll have to call the companies that make the TPMS systems. More paralysis by analysis...
Re: TPMS questions Reply #3 – May 18, 2019, 11:16:56 am Harold,We have the Tire Minder TM66. Very reliable and easily installed. Going to the Minder Research website you will find their contact info. Contact Minder ResearchI’ve called them for support (flow through valve purchases and extension inquiries) in the past. They should be able to answer your questions. If they don’t pick up right away just give them a call back. They are very customer service friendly.I’m sure you’ve seen the TPMS videos before but here is an installation video on the TM77 system they offer. https://youtu.be/tkvsmkU9UbsGood luck.Kent 2 Likes
Re: TPMS questions Reply #4 – May 18, 2019, 12:01:59 pm Wow, Kent, and it does up to 22 tires. Guess you would need two to do this trailer? 1 Likes
Re: TPMS questions Reply #5 – May 18, 2019, 12:27:28 pm Greg,Nice Toad. Suppose a trip to Mars would be in order. I did see a Class C on our way up to Zion this week that was towing a full sized Travel Trailer. So there’s 10 sensors right there. I actually thought of Harold when I saw the trailer behind the coach. Make it a Toy Hauler and Harold would be set. 🤯Kent 1 Likes
Re: TPMS questions Reply #6 – May 18, 2019, 01:22:00 pm Harold,I can’t answer directly about your Jeep, but in general... TPMS sensors transmit a short burst of data every minute or so in the UHF frequency (315MHz) band. The sensor will transmit more often if it senses a changing condition such as a slow leak or overheating. Yes, there is a remote chance that one in-tire and one stem-mounted sensor may interfere with each other if their respective burst-transmissions occurred simultaneously. But that would be true with all TPMS installations, regardless of the number or type of sensors. To minimize this possibility, manufacturers will pseudo-randomize the transmission rates. Bottom line is, don’t worry about it.- Jack 1 Likes
