Recreation dot Gov February 15, 2019, 01:16:29 pm Has anyone attempted to navigate through this mess recently? What happened to the "old" website? Any known secret work around?! I'm trying to get reservations at Cottonwood Springs in Joshua Tree NP. I do have a very poor connection, but if this is a "new, improved" website - it sucks! (JMHO!!)Lorna 1 Likes
Re: Recreation dot Gov Reply #1 – February 15, 2019, 01:56:50 pm Apparently the campground is called Cottonwood Campground. When I search for "joshua tree national park" on recreation.gov the campground is listed in second place in the results. To make reservations seems to be possible and easy.
Re: Recreation dot Gov Reply #2 – February 15, 2019, 05:21:27 pm Lorna,As Klaus said, going to recreation.gov click on the magnifying glass at the upper right corner then input Joshua Tree National Park in the search menu. The second listing shows “Cottowood Campground”. Is this the CG you’re looking for? Here are a couple of screen shots of what I got at the site. After the change over to the new vendor, the old iPhone app for rec.gov was discontinued. Too bad since I found the old app very user friendly.Kent
Re: Recreation dot Gov Reply #3 – February 16, 2019, 01:06:25 pm I've only been able to get recreation.gov to work using a browser based on Google Chrome. No luck with Safari.
Re: Recreation dot Gov Reply #4 – February 16, 2019, 01:17:18 pm Chrome works best for me as well. Actually, I only use Chrome for recreation.gov so I’m always at the page in a flash. It’s always loaded.Kent
Re: Recreation dot Gov Reply #5 – February 16, 2019, 03:15:39 pm I had no issue with Safari. See attached screenshot. I run Safari wide open for those web sites that 'demand' cookies and whatnot. After I'm done with whatever I need to do I then clear the browser and move back to Chrome. My Chrome browser is locked down and flows thru a VPN.
Re: Recreation dot Gov Reply #6 – February 16, 2019, 06:19:43 pm I have been making reservations for the upcoming summer, Recreation.Gov has been working fine in Safari.Washington State's site has been acting up, I gave up after waiting a few hours and moved on to Oregon. ReserveCalifornia is still a pain to use, it has never been right. It's all part of RVing, suffering though the reservation process. It wasn't that many years ago when we didn't need to do this but nowadays, it's a requirement for summer camping, especially along the coast I'm finding many parks already reserved into September. It's time to plan for fall camping.Larry
