Fires in California July 29, 2018, 10:44:56 pm My prayers go out for the people fighting and being overcome by the recent fires in California. My family nearly was overcome years ago in Florida by fires while on vacation. It was the scariest and most threatening thing that ever happened to us.Ron Sarzynski 3 Likes
Re: Fires in California Reply #1 – July 30, 2018, 01:03:07 pm It has been rough year for fires. Many forum members and their families have been effected by them throughout the West.I know several who have been evacuated, sometimes more than once.My brother and SIL were finally allowed yesterday to return to their home in Idyllwild after being forced to leave three days earlier. They now live in a island of trees surrounded by devastation. The widespread smoke is making it difficult for us to decide how to get to Portland at the end of this week from SoCal. Most routes covered in smoke, trying to determine which is the clearest route is difficult with conditions changing daily.California Smoke InformationRight now, it looks like HWY 101 is the best route, it's going to be a long drive .About ready to give summer vacations, tired of dodging wildfire smoke.Larry 1 Likes
Re: Fires in California Reply #2 – August 04, 2018, 12:36:05 am Wouldn't you know it, when we are ready to head to the PWN, the world catches on fire.On our way north, we normally spend the first night in Redding, not this year. Instead of I-5 or 395, we are driving up the 101 making it to Brookings Oregon today., our second day of driving. It's a longer and much more scenic drive than I-5, a lot cooler too.Heading north out of the Bay area this morning, we saw smoke off to the far east but it quickly cleared up and have seen any smoke since. Hope the next month stays the same.Passing through Ukiah this morning, we saw over hundred a fire trucks parked at must what have been a command center, There were dozens of tents and support vehicles. On the road, we dozens more. These are record setting fires, lot of folks have lost everything.Larry 4 Likes

Re: Fires in California Reply #5 – August 04, 2018, 12:09:30 pm The Brookings/Golds Beach area was burning last year at this time. Beautiful spot.
Re: Fires in California Reply #6 – August 04, 2018, 12:11:31 pm When we came down the coast early this year to avoid snow on i5 we stopped one night in Gold Beach. Our friends who were a head of us arrived in town about an hour earlier. Everything was full but there was this campground next to the airport that will let you park in their gravel lot for overflow if all are full. It's called Oceanside RV Park, it could be a viable last resort play. Also it is on the ocean side of the airport, a short walking distance from the beach. Karen~Liam 98 ~ MB
