Tireman Valve Problem
I'm having a problem with a "Tireman" valve on the passenger side dually.  I cannot read the tire pressure any of my guages, and I cannot add air through the valve.  I have emailed Chuck and have not yet received a response.  Can anyone give me a clue of the problem and the remedy?   Thanks.  Bob

Can you tell if the tire is leaking air? The problem may be a defective valve core or something, e.g., a piece of debris, preventing the valve core from allowing air into the tire. If there's no obviously visible debris, try backing the valve core out very slightly - you will need a valve core tool; any auto store should have this - then make sure that the core is seated correctly and re-tighten; don't over tighten.

Please post when you figure out the solution.

Thanks for your input.  I can manually depress the inside of the valve a bit with my finger.  No obvious sign of trauma to the tire, wheel, or wheel liner.  I'll give your advice a try.  Bob

Do you mean your gauges read '0'? When you try to add air, do you hear it flowing? If the answers are no and yes, and the duallie is rather compressed, one tire may be punctured.

If you have a piece of pipe or something similar, you can whack both duallies to see if they sound the same.  If one sounds very different, it could be flat, but the other dually is holding it up from flattening at the bottom.

Steve, it seems as the gauges "can't read" any pressure.  I don't hear any air flowing when I try to add air or when removing a guage.

Art, I will go out and wack the tires later.  Good idea.

Gentlemen, thank you both.

Hi Bob. When you manually pushed the  Schrader valve  pin in with your finger, you should have heard air escaping from the tire. If you didn't, then it is a safe bet that there isn't much air in the tire. Unlike flexible extender hoses, the one piece Borg extenders only have the one valve 'core' at the entrance. Sometimes the air inflator chuck on my compressor hose doesn't quite open the Schrader valve enough to get air to flow into a tire, so the clearances are important. (Hence Joans comment not to screw the valve core in too tight). RonB

I was trying to place an order with Tireman last week. The phones weren't working and email was not being replied to. Then on the weekend I got a call from Chuck's daughter, who reported that her father has passed away and the business is closed.

I must say I appreciated a personal call, my condolences to the family though.

I talked to him about two (2) years ago and he was planning to retire from his tire business but planned to keep the Valve Business as a part-time gig to fund his other interests.   He certainly had a stellar reputation for helping RVers with various tire problems.  Sad news ... yes sir ... sad news.

FYI, there is nothing unique about Tireman valves, they are just longer tubes. Any tire shop should be able to cure whatever problem you have.

Wow, this is so sad.  Last year, when we picked up our new 2017 27' MB, we drove up to buy the kits from Chuck.  He met us at a Walmart parking lot and we followed him to a shop he said could install them.  He was a gracious man, and it was an honor to meet him, shake his hand and thank him for helping us out.  A true loss.

Problem UPDATE

I carefully examined the duals in the rear looking for bulging, and the tire walls approaching one another.  Looked OK.  I found something in the garage to hit the tires with to listen for changes in the sound.  All sounded OK.  I was planning to get new tires anyway, so I drove slowly the 2.5 miles to the tire shop I use, and had them install six new tires.  When they completed the job, I asked if they had any problems with the install or valves.  They reported no problems, but did note that the part of the valves in the rim were getting "a little corroded".  Now, no problem measuring the air pressure in the tire.  I think the likely problem may have been dirt preventing the valve from working properly.

"... may have been dirt..."

Now that you've got a fix on the "no reading" situation, the best way to protect those stems is with a set of Gators!

Peter, regarding those Borg Dually Tire Stems that you say Camping World has for under $30; those are probably a CW clearance item and the kits they have look to be suitable for older Rvs. When I was on their website it showed prices of around $44 and they don't even have kits for newer Class C's.

Do you know if those that you found a "deal" on will work on either the round hand hole 16" wheels that were in use on the Ford E450 or the oval hand hole wheel that was on the current Ford E450?
