Re: Totally Unbelievable Reply #6 – December 03, 2017, 01:05:12 am A few questions.1. There had to have been a 3rd wingjumper to film the other two, what happened to him (am assuming male).2. The first footage showed a wingjumper coming out/failing to successfully make the door. What happened to him?3. If their agent saw this, do they still have life insurance?4. If they are so thrill seeking, why the belay ropes used in the approach? If you are passing thru Twin Falls ID, The Perrine Bridge across the Snake River allows base jumping. I never saw a wing suit tho'. 1 Likes
Re: Totally Unbelievable Reply #7 – December 03, 2017, 02:08:31 am When we were kids, my sister, 2 cousins, & I (11, 10, 8, & 6) would climb into the hayloft on our grandparents' farm, & we figured out how to climb onto the farmhouse roof without the grownups ever knowing 'til it was confessed at a family reunion in our 30s (from the attic ridge it was a good three stories). Nowadays it takes all I've got (& I'm prayin' the whole time) to climb the ladder to clean the gutters of a one story ranch--& I'm not even on the roof (I do the Gutter Marathon where I climb up, blow as far as I can, climb down, move the ladder three feet, repeat the sequence 'til I get all the way around). Has anybody done the Grand Canyon Skywalk? Seems pretty pricey, though I realize like casinos elsewhere, that is part of Native People's effort to recoup historic takings & losses.Lynne 2 Likes
Re: Totally Unbelievable Reply #8 – December 04, 2017, 01:33:22 pm Judging by the prominent logos, this stunt was sponsored by Red Bull beverages, who have a history of sponsoring extreme sports stunts (e.g., Felix Baumgartner's parachute jump from 24 miles altitude). And it was obviously well financed. The number of camera angles in the video makes it clear that they had cameras everywhere--on the plane, on the jumpers, on the ground, on a drone, and so on.And yes, it's obvious that they failed a few times (that impact with the plane's door frame must have hurt!) before succeeding. To me it seems stupid to risk one's life to help sell caffeinated sugar water. But obviously the strategy works for Red Bull. 3 Likes
Re: Totally Unbelievable Reply #9 – December 04, 2017, 02:40:25 pm Ahhh, youth...When we were young, they were big brass ones connected to a tiny brain. Now with age and "maturity" we have big brains connected to ... well just forget it.I used to try to explain to my son that big rewards justify big risks. Medium rewards= medium risks. No reward = no risk. Of course, he didn't hear anything I said.Wonderful video though! 2 Likes

Seems pretty pricey, though I realize like casinos elsewhere, that is part of Native People's effort to recoup historic takings & losses. We were thinking about going there until some disappointed friends told us that you can't take any cameras, including your cell phone, with you on the mandatory shuttle bus ride to the Skywalk. You can buy very expensive photos of yourself, taken by their photographer, great if all you want are deluxe selfies. Can't imagine a photo enthusiast going there and not being allow to take your own camera, not even being offered a photo pass, for a fee. Strange. As for the flyboys, more excitement than I need these days. So many things to go wrong.I would like being able to fly, but not just gliding. Gravity can be so cruel.Larry 3 Likes
Re: Totally Unbelievable Reply #11 – December 05, 2017, 10:48:42 am Ok not to take away from the skill of the 'players' in this stunt but its not that dangerous from a physics point of view. Using rough estimates of the speed of the plane and sky divers there is only a 3 to 5 mph difference between them. If and when a sky diver misses the 'target' its not any difference then when they make the target. The energy absorb is the same. I.E. hitting the side of the plane is not any different then going thru the open door hitting the inside wall the plane. Between you and me I'm happy to get thru the door of my LD without hitting the sides of the RV. 5 Likes
