AG's send a letter (National Park Fees)
Just read an article about the National Park Fee increase.

Interesting--I sadly note that our Missouri AG Josh Hawley is absent from the list--one year into his first elected office he's too busy politicking for his Senate run next year, rather than serving the people of Missouri by looking at the bigger picture of who gets shut out of our national natural resources.

I don't have a problem with increasing fees, but these seem to put visits beyond what my family could have done when my kids were at home (though I didn't realize 'til coming here & learning about the Senior Pass how we benefitted when visiting RMNP/Mesa Verde/etc. with The Aunt & Uncle from Denver).

RE: "...more than half of which would be used to chip away at a backlog of maintenance and infrastructure projects." So, if the Administration is looking to cut the budget, but only using over half the revenue raised for the backlog of projects, is the less than half not going to projects just going into the general Federal budget rabbit hole?  Seems like everything raised from fees should go to the Park Service.  Years ago Missouri voted for a special tax for the State Parks--some of our GOP legislators have been really cranky in recent years that they can't touch that money or the Conservation Tax money for general revenue, even as they've bragged about cutting taxes.  A huge mistake was made when we voted to allow the Lottery & casinos (allegedly riverboats that neither float nor sail on the Missouri & Mississippi rivers) back in the 80s--the come on was that this would provide $$ for education, but over time the General Assembly has cut taxes/diverted general revenue $$ to other pet projects, even though our Constitution specifies the percentage of the state budget that's supposed to go to education...meanwhile, gambling revenue never kept up with projections.  That experience certainly gives weight to the AGs' point that the increased fees might not pan out if visits go down.  We do live in "interesting times."
