Big Foot Levelers -- been working fine, now only 'click' sound -- ideas? March 19, 2017, 04:54:06 pm Hi Folks,Have I used up all my question allotment yet? I hope not, because I suspect they will keep coming ;-)So my Big Foot levelers have been working great. One time they did not deploy and I assumed that was due to low battery (the most likely cause, per their manual). And then they worked later, so I assumed, OK, need decent battery levels for these to work. But the last two times I have tried to deploy them, I have been well over 90% charge level (one time near 100%). And everything else is running fine off the batteries.I don't have any error conditions on the panel, and the self-test runs fine each time. The panel works fine (which I understand runs off the truck battery). But deployment runs off the house batteries. Again, if I try it on auto or manual, I am only hearing a solenoid "click" and no deployment. Anyone know if there is a fuse specific for the levelers I need to check?Any other ideas from folks with levelers (I'll take tips from other brands if you think they might help). Thanks in advance,S-
Re: Big Foot Levelers -- been working fine, now only 'click' sound -- ideas? Reply #1 – March 20, 2017, 09:16:23 am I don't have levelers, but that sounds like the old infamous Starter Click. Small truck hydraulics I have seen use a Starter motor driving a oil pump. What is the voltage at the battery and the motor terminals while running?
Re: Big Foot Levelers -- been working fine, now only 'click' sound -- ideas? Reply #2 – March 20, 2017, 10:11:52 am Full disclosure: don't have 'em.But if the battery measures good, then look at the grounds at the battery and the control. The ground circuit may show voltage under no load, but isn't connected well enough for full current. An experienced tech can bypass the solenoid to rule that out as the problem, but it look like you should probably leave that to the tech.Chip
Re: Big Foot Levelers -- been working fine, now only 'click' sound -- ideas? Reply #3 – March 24, 2017, 08:14:12 am Thanks Rodney and Chip,They are working again. I'm back to suspecting the batteries are the culprit. It seems I can't always go by my battery monitor's reported charge level. Today they worked and I was at a reported 90%. There are times my battery monitor reported higher, and they didn't work.Similar to the problem I had reported with my generator.I'm in the market for replacement batteries. Is there a go-to recommendation for AGM batteries -- apparently COSTCO does not sell them? And I also clearly need to better understand the monitoring equipment I have (Xantrex Battery Monitor) to make sense out of the state of charge of the batteries. Any tips/suggestions on either follow-on point is welcome. Thanks again!S-
