Road Tunes 101

Thanks Greg et all for the idea. I know everyone has there favorite tunes to Hum, Whistle or Sing while driving their LD down the open highway.

I have several in mind right now but the one at the Top-Of-My-List is a favorite from a great country singer...Mister Willie Nelson.

And a one, And a two, And a...

Easy tune to carry you along to all your friends at the other end of the road.

See ya all there,

For the very few that have thought I was working off a normal state.   Yup I was raised the 60's, spend some time on the street then got drafted.    Have no idea what happened.

Many of us on LDO were born and raised in the Los Angeles area. A fixture for the many of us was the Whiskey-A-Go-Go.

The following selection is an "Open If You Dare" or "Fast Forward Please". Plug it into your LD sound system...sit back and relax as America Rocks the Whiskey.

And oh yeah...of the few times I went to the Whiskey this jam could very well have found me and my buddies having a Coca-Cola somewhere in the crowd.

These guys rock as does the Country.

Greg,

While I might have considered myself a "travelin' man" in '72, I was only 19 years old.

So to answer your question...Ice and maybe even a straw.

"Back-In-TheDay" I would transfer my favorite movies to cassette tapes and play them in my '71 VW Van.

The Blues Brothers was one of my favorite road tapes. The craziest thing was that as the tape played I could visualize the film as I drove down the highway.

My V Dub was long gone when Back To The Future came out but to memorialize Chuck Berry one more time in film here is one of my favorites.

In my late teens and early twenties, I Ioved going to the Whiskey and other clubs that would allow me in and was lucky enough to see the Doors and Chicago, at the Whiskey, before they hit the big time.
Being underage, if I did any drinking, it was before the show.
What happened back then should stay back then ;-)

One of my best college jobs was the three seasons spent ushering at the Hollywood Bowl.
Lots of good memories.

So much in So Cal.

Back when I "tried" my hand at surfing the waves at Huntington Beach my buddies and I saw another California Band at Huntington Beach's Famed Golden Bear...

A short history now unfolds...

My All-Time-Favorite Band played there a couple of times and we had front row seats and wine coolers close enough to pick the strings on
Gerry's guitar.

I looked for a live taping of one of their concerts there but to no avail.

None other than The Grateful Dead...

How many Dead concerts have I seen over the years? Not really sure but I do recall taking my DW to one at the Long Beach Convention Center. It had the first wet bar I'd ever encountered at a Dead Concert.

Now there's a Dead date I'll never remember.

I've only had the pleasure of meeting him once but somehow I have no problem visualizing a young Larry Wade sitting in the Whiskey, sipping on a Coke, and rocking out to LA Woman or 25 or 6 to 4!  8)

Chicago is one of my favorite groups, BTW!

"Anything by CCR works for me but this one fits the bill:"

This topic had me thinking yesterday about CCR.  Wish I had a buck for every time the Green River album played on mine or one of my buddies 8 track players while we were riding around in our cars back about 1970-71!

Here's a good Jerry Jeff Walker tune about the road.

Oh yeah, the old 8-track players! I can still remember riding around my friend's '67 Pontiac Bonneville, that looked eerily similar to this one, listening to tunes.  That car was big enough to live in!
