Snowmageddon?
3 more storms are lined up to hit SoCal starting Wednesday night so all you campers be aware.  Should be quite a show at the coast!  Here in the mountains, we have 6 consecutive days of snow forecasted.  Methinks the drought may be in trouble!

While Central and Northern California have been pounded, so far SoCal has just caught the edges of the passing storms and have not received large amounts of rain. Maybe this will change the next few days and weeks.
The rains receive have been gentle, producing minimal runoff,  the ground is so dry. This is good news as the bigger bushes and trees have been suffering, not having access to ground water. We have lost much of our landscaping during the last five years, with rationing severely reducing our home water usage.
The reservoirs may be filling but it will take years to recharge the underground aquifers.
Lets's hope this isn't a one year break in a longer term drought.

One thing for sure, our Morro Bay GTG, in early March, will be surrounded by a lot of green.
It's going to be a wonderful spring.

Indeed, and there should be lots of wildflowers this year!  Probably too early for the Morro Bay meet but if you are in the general area about a month later, and enjoy viewing the wildflowers, check out Shell Creek Road.  It is one of our favorite places in the spring time!  It's an easy drive from Morro Bay.

I am so sorry that we can't make it up to Morro Bay as we have other commitments.  We'd love  to catch up with you at another time.

It's about an hour or so from MB SP to to Shell Creek Rd @58., if I remember. The wildflowers should be good this year, but early March might be a little soon for the best displays.

Just a FYI on driving through the Carrizo Plain NM (wildflowers there, too); the road through is dirt/gravel. If it's dry, it's very dusty, and if it's wet, it can be gumbo! The road is is "bladed"; this does fill in the holes, but since the CAT tracks follow the blade, the road is ridged with the track pattern, i.e., a teeth-rattler!  ;)

Good luck to y'all, that reservoirs may be filled, the aquifer recharged, no flooding/rockslides/other dangers & miseries.

The Flood of '93 did little for our Ogallala Aquifer here in the midwest & of course many are worried about the pipelines polluting the Ogallala...course, then ya got the fracking in Oklahoma pumping the waste water back down where they're dealing with earthquakes--our last big one in the Midwest was the New Madrid that changed the course of the Mississippi River.

...but the ice is gone, we've had just gentle drizzly stuff the last couple of days, & it's supposed to be back to near 60 in north MO by the weekend.

Safe thoughts for all out there in the stuff...

We drove through Portland on Sunday Jan 8Th, that was the first bought with the snow.  Cars were strewn about like domino's on i-84 and about 30 miles east of portland i-84 was closed.  Streets were filled with a crunchy snow and ice mixture and yet the worst was yet to come.  As we drove out of town the streets cleared up and were bare and dry just about 10 miles out of town on rt 26 toward Mt Hood and south to Bend.  Funny how that goes, you would think with all of the car action the snow and ice would be broken up and melt or be pushed off the road but that is just not the case there.  I see that temperatures have risen in Portland perhaps things are getting better.  Spring is on the way, Someday!

Odd year. We have had very little snow here on the plains this winter. It was 50 degrees and sunny yesterday (avg high 34). Had a brutal cold snap in December but generally mild.

Always interesting to see how winter patterns set up each year.

One thing about only being able to camp 7 or 8 months per year locally is the dreaming and planning can be a joy. Labor Day week at Blue Bell In Custer State Park South Dakota makes for some great anticipation. Also a couple of shakedowns in Spring already scheduled.

Planning is fun.
